Epilogue
I got older and graduated from high school and went to college. Just like Rachel wanted I took her little sister to Prom, twice. I got married and had kids, and grandkids, and great grandkids and eventually great great grandkids and then I died at age 105 of a very natural death. Ellie lived five more years before she died. We both died happy, just like Rachel wanted. When I went to visit my grave as a soul I smiled. Just as Rachel had wanted, on my headstone, which was right next Ellie’s, was written:
Max Evan Peters
Best Father, Husband, Grampapa, and Great Grampapa anyone could ever ask for. He will always be the best, most thoughtful best friend a dying girl could wish for. His dog days are over too.
The End.
