Adonis (Fantasy Movie Script, for FWC) PART I

Ashley in a balloon; the only way is up. |
[There’s a video showing 5 young girls around 12 or 13, swimming wildly in a rather elegant, indoor pool. The passage below is a voiceover of the video by AVA, but the voice sounding of a young woman of 20. The video shows the scenes accordingly with AVA.]
You can’t undo the past, but you can create a future.
In the beginning of 7th grade, I was swimming in the family indoor pool with four of my friends at 8 PM, doing 5 laps, then 10 laps, then 15 laps until we couldn’t feel our arms or legs anymore. I remember the sweet cool lemonade in my mouth that refreshed my entire system every other lap. The splashing and laughter filled my head like a powerful song of encouragement to keep on going.
At one point, I noticed Julia’s goggles fell to the bottom of the pool. “Ahh!! Chloride in my eyes!” Julia yelped as the sound of the splashing rested around her. I grinned, and dove for it. I grabbed the goggles, and when I came back up, Julia had her arms extended expectingly for it.
“Thanks Ava. Now give it!” Julia laughed. I gave her a small playful smile, and ran up the pool stairs onto the cold concrete.
“You’ll have to get it yourself!” I giggled. My three other friends snickered as well, and encouraged Julia to chase me. Julia gave up and did. She must of chased me for only a few minutes before something life changing happened.
She slipped, hitting the concrete head first. Hard.
Everyone gasped, including me, and, paralyzed in fear, watched her roll unconsciously into the pool. My friends hastily but cautiously walked towards me and cried, “Ava!! She won’t be able to swim, we have to get her!” I gasped, and we all got in to save her.
We were on the 8 foot side of the pool. She was steadily sinking the bottom. I didn’t know if I or any of my friends had the strength to save her life. As I pushed and pushed myself toward Julia, I felt all of my heart and desperate willpower propel into my hands, which were trying to as much as they could to reach Julia.
Suddenly, I saw a glassy figure pull Julia back up. I realized it was in the shape of a young man, probably in his twenties. I was stunned and afraid, but he wrapped Julia’s arm around my neck. Immediately, I swam back to the surface, and my friends helped me get her back flat on the ground. While one of my friends called 911, luckily enough, Tiffany was trained in CPR and tried it on Julia. Slowly, we saw the life draw back into her.
As Tiffany sat back up, she and I sighed heavily in relief. Tiffany said quietly, “She’s breathing again, though she had a bad concussion or maybe even in a coma. Oh man, I really hope her skull didn’t crack…” Then a flush of guilt reddened my face and clinged tightly onto my heart.
It was my entire fault. It was like a nightmare you’d have on a bad day, but this was real. My head was too dizzy to contemplate on the glass man. I kept blinking, hoping it’d all disappear. It only pressed the tears from my eyes. . .
8 Years Later. . .
Scene 1
[Scenes flash of JULIA, a petite blonde girl of 13, accordingly with AVA's voiceover.]
AVA (VOICE-OVER): Julia turned out to be alright. To everyone’s relief, she just got a horrible concussion; it was a miracle to the doctors. However, Julia’s memories of her previous life had huge loopholes, like her 10th birthday and the day her dad returned from war.
[The scene displays a fairly pretty, well-weighted, light brown-haired girl walking to a collage outdoor pool. The next shot shows her in her simple black one-piece bathing suit, and she slips in the pool. Ava’s voiceover talks while this is shown.]
AVA (VOICE-OVER): Though the guilt of being responsible for such a thing still weighs on me, I ended up as girl looking into a career in music. I remembered how swimming gave me inspiration for all of my drawings as a kid, so I thought it’d work the same for music. . .
[A tall, slender, young asian woman of 20 spots AVA and waves excitedly at her.]
ASIAN YOUNG WOMAN: Oh my gosh, Ava!!!
AVA: Are you… Oh my go-- Tiffany!!
[TIFFANY and AVA walk enthusiastically toward each other and hug.]
AVA: You’re taking classes at Alton Collage? Oh my gosh, that’s amazing, I haven’t seen you since middle school graduation!
TIFFANY: I know! I’ve been great, so busy with studies. I’m going to become a professional violinist! What about you?
AVA: That’s great! I’m going to become a songwriter and composer.
TIFFANY: Wow, awesome, what kind of songs and stuff do you write?
AVA: Oh, like… mystical. Fantasy-like? I’m not sure how to describe it.
TIFFANY: Interesting! Come on, let’s do some laps.
AVA: Sure!
[AVA and TIFFANY walk over to the pool, slip in, and swim toward the swimming lanes. They talk indistinctly while the camera shifts underwater, and shows the glass man, staring at AVA. The camera goes back at AVA and TIFFANY, who were swimming steadily and slowly up and down the lanes.]
AVA: Wow, I haven’t swam since…
[A short silence filled with splashing.]
TIFFANY: I know.
AVA: Well, anyways—
[Suddenly, AVA bobbles up and down, starts struggling to stay over water. TIFFANY starts to freak out, yelling AVA’s name. Everyone in the pool and the lifeguard is alarmed. TIFFANY starts to attempt to swim under the lane dividers to help AVA. She immediately swings her head back up, unable to believe what she just saw. AVA is submerged underwater.
Under the water, AVA sees that the glass man had pulled her underwater. She’s petrified and stunned.]
THE GLASS MAN: While we have physical contact, you can talk underwater. Now, listen closely because we don’t have much time.
AVA: Oh my God…
THE GLASS MAN: I’m Ryan; I died two decades ago because I drowned in a surfboarding accident. Poseidon took pity of me, and made me into a water spirit. The only way I can turn human is a kiss from human flesh.
AVA: Oh God... Oh no.. Oh, no, no, no. NO no no!
[AVA sees a lifeguard plunge into the water behind Lucas. The lifeguard sees them, and, surprised out of his wits, loses his breath and goes back up for air.]
RYAN: You owe me. That girl from eight years ago would have died if it weren’t for me.
[A series of muffled yelling and obvious confusion is heard from above.]
AVA: Please... just please let me go. This is a dream. I know it is.
RYAN: It isn’t.
[AVA hesitates, but slowly draws up to RYAN and kisses him on the cheek. His cheek was strange; it felt like kissing water on dry land, except she was inwater. She watches the flesh seep into RYAN’s glassy figure. Then, very quickly, RYAN wrapped his arms around AVA’s, and swam them up to the surface.]
RYAN: She’s okay! She’s okay!
[TIFFANY, who was standing on the concrete trying to collect herself, cried out in relief and ran next to RYAN to helped him pull AVA on the edge of the pool. AVA opens her eyes to a very attractive young man in Nikes swim trunks and feels very embarrassed.]
AVA: Um.. Uh...
RYAN: Ryan Tyler.
[AVA realizes he’s the same glass man, and almost shouts it out before RYAN looks up to TIFFANY, smiling.]
RYAN: I trust you can take care of this girl?
TIFFANY: Y-Yeah!
RYAN: Great.
[As TIFFANY gets the help of the lifeguard to carry the shocked and weary AVA, RYAN walks into the boys’ locker room. When the door shuts behind him, the scene ends.]
Scene 2
[The scene takes place a regular collage. The seats are like one of a movie theater, and TIFFANY and AVA are seated in the back.]
TIFFANY: Hey girl! How are you doing? Yesterday… oh man, that was scary shit.
AVA: Yeah… I’m doing alright. I don’t know what was wrong with me, I think I had a cramp in my leg or something.
TIFFANY: Call me crazy, but when you drowned, I saw this, like… dude made out of water, pulling you down. It was so weird.
AVA: Haha, weird alright…
TIFFANY: We were so lucky that guy, Ryan, was there to help you out, right?! He’s so hot too!
AVA: Yeah… Well, I just hope I never—
[RYAN walks into the room, looks up, and spots TIFFANY and AVA. He grins and waves, and starts walking up to join them.]
AVA: …ever see him again. Oh God. Why is he here?!
TIFFANY: Ava, he saved your life! I don’t know what’s up with you, maybe you’re still dizzy or something. Hey Ryan!
RYAN: Hello. I don’t believe I caught your name, I’m sorry for my rudeness.
TIFFANY: Oh, haha, don’t worry about it. I’m Tiffany. This is Ava, the girl you saved yesterday!
AVA: -softly- Hi.
RYAN: I remember. I guess we have class together; mind if I join you guys?
TIFFANY: Not at all!
[AVA sinks in her chair and RYAN passes her a small victorious smile. The lessons begin, and the middle-aged female teacher begins her lecture about the history of classical music. RYAN passes AVA a note. AVA opens it.]
RYAN’s note read: Thanks.
[AVA smiled a little, and wrote. Then, she passed it back to RYAN, who then opened it.]
AVA wrote back: You do a good job wooing women. But not me.
RYAN wrote back: Who said I wanted to woo you?
AVA wrote back: Your face. It was written all over it.
RYAN wrote back: I think you’re overreacting. Maybe because you want to believe I want to woo you?
AVA wrote back: People also overreact when they’re afraid of something.
RYAN wrote back: Oh, sorry. Don’t worry, lots of people have the phobia of handsome men.
AVA wrote back: Who said you were handsome?! Your mom? Go make friends with a puddle of water.
[AVA shoves the note back at him and concentrates the teacher’s lecture, clearly showing no intention of continuing the conversation. RYAN smiles and presses his lips to suppress a giggle.
The camera shifts behind the classroom walls to the school’s campus grounds with a beautiful fountain in the center. The scene flashes to a fountain close-up, showing a glassy woman begin to form from the water surface. Her eyes become an ominous glowing yellow. She looks into the screen, and the scene ends.]
Scene 3
[It’s a bright morning for 7:30 AM. AVA is walking across the school’s campus to get to the cafeteria, so she can get breakfast before her morning classes. As she walks by the water fountain, she feels a tap at her shoulder. AVA turns, and it’s a beautiful lady who’s dressed as one of the women who work at the school’s office.]
OFFICE LADY: Excuse me, are you Ava Sanchez?
AVA: Yes… Am I in trouble?
OFFICE LADY: Oh, not at all! You just won a scholarship from Washington D.C., they’re on hold at the office. You need to come immediately.
AVA: Oh my God!! –squeal- I didn’t think I’d win that contest!! Okay, I’m going!
OFFICE LADY: Great, follow me.
[AVA and the OFFICE LADY begin to make their way toward the office. The camera flashes to RYAN, who was on his way to the cafeteria like AVA was. He looks at thefountain, and then sees AVA and the OFFICE LADY. He stares, and the OFFICE LADY notices and glares back. RYAN sees a flash of yellow in the OFFICE LADY’s eyes, and alarmed, immediately sprints up to them.]
RYAN: Ava!!
AVA: Ugh, are you stalking me or what?
[RYAN glances at the OFFICE LADY, who stares at him suspiciously.]
RYAN: Let’s go eat breakfast. I’ll explain later.
AVA: What? I’m going to respond to a call from DC, I can’t right now!
RYAN: She’s lying. We need to go right now.
AVA: What’s with you, I don’t know what’s—
[OFFICE LADY pounces at RYAN with razor teeth and nails. RYAN draws out a dagger pulsing light blue lights, and stabs her with it. The OFFICE LADY bursts into water.]
AVA: Oh my God. You killed her.
RYAN: Did you not see the part where she became water? She’s not human.
AVA: Then what is she?! What’s that dagger for?! I mean... what are you?!
RYAN: I’m the guardian of Princess Adonis of the Water Nymphs.
AVA: So why are you… Oh God. Oh no.
RYAN: Yes. You’re the princess.
AVA: You can’t be serious!
RYAN: I am, and we need to leave immediately. Poseidon knows we’re here.
AVA: I’m not going anywhere with you. This is all insane! This can’t be real!! Gods don’t—
[RYAN pulls her into his chest and wrestles to muffle her words with his hands.]
RYAN: Don’t say such dangerous things. Gods are not patient or merciful when they’re in a bad mood.
AVA: You're a lying. You're just some psycho fan of some stupid greek mythology book or something; this isn't real!!
RYAN: I'm sorry, I have to do this.
[RYAN pinches one of AVA's pressure points, and she faints. Scene ends.]
A/N: Sorry it's only a part... Hope you enjoy this segment though, thoughts and opinions appreciated!
