Betrayal Chapter 12

Absol sat, staring into the moonlight. She was still stunned by the fact that Lucario was in love with her. After he had admitted it to her, he stood up and ran away. He hadn't come back yet, and Absol was really worried. She could scarcely believe that the pokemon who had been her worst enemy at times was in love with her.
Abby padded up behind her, and Absol murmured, "Hi, Abby." Abby came around and looked shocked. "How did you know it was me?" she asked. Absol shrugged. She had learned to identify each pokemon by their foorsteps. She gazed into the stars, eyes reflecting the moonlight.
"So... what's up?" asked Abby, nudging Absol gently. "You've been acting different since you got back from that patrol with Lucario. More... dreamy." Abby stared right into Absol's eyes. "Are you in love?" she asked. Absol's fur bristled in shock. Abby took a few steps away and said, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I know I had no right to ask that! But still, you act like Teddy when he's following that Poliwag around!" Absol sank to the ground, defeated.
"You know me so well, Abby," she confessed quietly. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm in love with Lucario. And he told me he loved me. To my face. And he ran off like Charizard was chasing him. He was afraid to admit his feelings for me, but he did, before I even allowed myself to come to terms with them." Abby lay next to her and gave her a gentle nuzzle.
"Hey, c'mon, Absol! Don't worry! I don't, like, think you're weird or anything! It's totally okay to be in love with a pokemon, especially if they love you, too!" Abby said. Absol buried her face in her claws.
"I didn't even get to tell him that I felt the same! I mean, he ran off too quickly and I'm worried that he's hurt or he thinks I hate him or something! What if-" Absol paused and stared at the moon, eyes brimming with moonlit tears. "-what if he hates me?" Absol's last words were almost undistinguisable, because she buried her face in her paws and burst into tears.
Abby didn't say anything or try to cheer her up. She just lay there, understanding. It was exactly the thing to do.
After a long time, Absol got up slowly and returned to her nest. When she got there, she looked up through her tear-filled eyes and gasped. There, in front of her, was Lucario! With a cry of shock she collapsed into her nest, sobbing.
"Absol! Absol, are you okay?" asked Lucario, sitting up from his curled position and leaning over. "I'm so sorry for running off like that! I was just so embarrassed! Oh, Absol, please stop crying!" Absol sniffled and looked at him.
"L-lucario," she sobbed, wiping the tears from her eyes with a paw. "I-I-I love you." Lucario's gaze filled with delight and fear at the same time. He leaned closer to her.
"Absol," he whispered. "Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to hear. And I love you. But we must never breath a word of this to any pokemon, because we KNOW how much they love us." Absol sniffled and nuzzled his face. He gave her a gentle hug and leaned back to his own nest.
Lucario, thought Absol, wiping her eyes again. You have no idea how happy you make me. Please... if I make your life miserable... let me go. After these thoughts, Absol couldn't say more. She had collapsed into her nest, wiped out from crying.
