Camp Haven Preface (Edited)

Preface

This place was covered in sequoia forests. I couldn’t find my way through them, but I knew that something awaited me if I kept walking north. This was not a familiar memory and I didn’t like it. The forest smelt of blueberries and sunlight poured in wherever there was an opening. I had a sweatshirt and jeans on, and I was wearing blue shoes. My head felt very itchy, like how a dog feels when fleas have infested it. I suddenly felt my spine harden, and I began to get on all fours in push-up position. I looked both ways, and I began to feel myself adapt to this new position.

I felt my clothes disappear into thin air, and my body felt different. I no longer felt cold, but just comfortable, like I was relaxing in a nice lounge with soft velvet couches everywhere, and brilliant chandeliers above head, sparkling down upon whoever entered. Then the hair began to grow. Little whiskers, all over my body. They looked thorny and uncomfortable, but they felt so comfortable, just like the couches. My nose began to feel wetter, and inhuman. I could see further and smell better, and I could hear everything around me, even the tiniest ant crawling back to its home. I had pointy ears like an elf, and my throat felt clearer. I could feel more energy within my body, as though it was a reserve for when I was tired, I could still keep going when a human would collapse exhausted.

I inhaled a long, sweet breath, and the air filled my lungs, and I could feel the coolness of the forest enter me, and the soft soil fueling my paws for a long journey. I suddenly realized I was a wolf, free to roam the mountains without fear. I could stand proudly and march through the forests unopposed until I had finally reached my northern destination. I was no longer afraid of what lay ahead, for I was wolf that no one would dare attempt to disturb. My pride was stronger, and I could feel more muscle now than I had had in my human body. Everything was perfect. I began to sprint north through the forest, leaping over streams and longs, fallen trees and dead animals. I knew this was a dangerous place, yet I felt like I was the danger, and everything else should cower in fear from my power. But when I reached a stream much too large to use my leg muscles to jump from, I knew I would have to swim.

I slowly used my green eyes to scan the stream, and I observed no immediate threat that could incarcerate me in the watery depths of the stream. I slowly allowed my paws to slip into the water, and I didn’t like the weight that was added to my fur, and I reluctantly jumped inside just to avoid the torture of slowly being pulled in. The giant weight of my splash created high waves, and I struggled to execute a doggy paddle. I suddenly didn’t feel alone. I felt a strange presence near me, but I couldn’t determine where from it came. I slowly made my advance to the other side, but before I could feel the other end of this gigantic stream, something sharp bit into my leg. I howled out in pain and began thrashing, but I could no longer move.

I felt the powerful force holding me begin to violently drag me under. Deeper. Deeper. Soon only my head was above the water, and soon my keen eyes went under and I looked below me to see a great white shark, ripping at my foot pulling me deeper. I tried to swim back up, but my efforts were futile. Soon, I couldn’t think clearly, and my vision was failing. My attempts of escape became weaker and weaker until I could no longer move. Paralyzed, I allowed the shark to pull me into a watery grave. And then everything in my vision dissappeared along with me until I was swallowed in total darkness.
