Consequences - Chapter 6 ( Hurrah! :P )

in my house, on here, writing. Like you!

Note for Kyle : I've read all your comments over and I do agree my chapters could be longer and more detailed- but I could've squished all I've written so far into two long chapters, which I was going to do- but then I thought it would be easier for each chapter to be short and write many chapters. But If I were to publish Consequences I'd do longer chapters + more detail.

It's only been about twenty minutes since we left the rest stop and Justine's coughs weren't stopping, but Jeremy gave her a lozenge (Look, I don't want to know why he has so much medicine with him) and they're getting okay. I tried to inch away from her, in case it was catching, but son-of-a-gun it's hard in a car. What's freaking me out is the fact I've only seen one car. And this is a major highway. The rest don't really care, I don't know where their minds are at today, but being the driver means focus. I'm not so hot about driving, but I can't trust anyone else ever since the incident with Justine two days ago.

"I'm starving like a desert without rain." Jeremy says when we swish past an ad for some hamburger.

"Your argument is invalid. That phrase would work if your thirsty." I say quickly while focusing on the road in head of me. Man, I'm tired.

'Okay then. My stomach is on a plea for food."

"Look, we're all always going to be hungry. Just...take my Mars bar." I say to shut him up as I throw him the bar. Shoot, I was saving that for later, but it would've melted anyways in the heat of this car.

The car is silence except for Jeremy contently chewing, Gigi whispering for a piece, inching to him. Mikey looks lonely. He's pressed to the other side of the car, staring out of the window. Justine is reading something...a magazine, I suppose. Just when I look up back to my driving, I see a girl on the road ahead, standing with her arms waving in the air and holding a piece of luggage. I abruptly  tap my foot on the brakes which makes the car lurch. I tell everyone to wait as I step out of the car.

"Do you need help?" I ask.

"I'm a run away. I've hitched from Maltown, 120 miles back. My life is bull."

"I'm afraid we don't have any space left in the car. What could I do? You're here on a deserted highway near the Oregon/California border standing alone. Isn't that risky?"

"I've endured worse."

"We could squish you in the back maybe...m' friend Gigi's pretty skinny."

"It's okay."

"Not okay." I say firmly as I look at the pain in her eyes, her dirty clothes, her tattered luggage. There's bruises on her arms.

"You haven't just hitchhiked 120 miles. What have you been doing? What's your name? Again?" I say again.

"Rather not say, Perry, 15."

"You're a year younger then us.....We're taking you." I say as I open the car door.

"So we're taking this kid?" Justine says as I force Perry in between Gigi and Jeremy awkwardly. They fit. Sort of.

So now, an hour later, I have a stranger in my back seat who had apparently become best friends with Mikey. What am I doing?
