in the drizzling rain, hoping that this counts as a shower

A.N. just a new thingy i'm deciding to work on. dunno if i'll finish. i just wanna write a sentimental story now, so i'm just gonna write this story! if u need any help for the title, the book is about a girl having troubles in life and school. she is bullied a lot, and her parents are divorcing.

Chapter One

Marriage and Love, Things That DIE (this chapter's name is due to De-Ecrivian! thnx!)

It was like a warning. A warning of what would happen that day. Of course, if I had known what would happen, I would've never gotten out of bed that cursed morning.

A dream was blossoming in my head, a dream of when I was young, when I was ten. I was in the family van. Our family was on our way to the beach in San Francisco. It was my birthday, so we decided to spend the hot summer's day in the cool water.

After a day of splashing, we retired in the shade of the van, licking cold ice cream. My face was hot with sweat, but it had been one of the best days of my life. I had always loved the beach, and, being an only child, I went there often.

I remember that day, Mom had fainted away in the blistering sun, and Dad had carried her all the way to the parking lot. As they sat together in the car, they embraced and said they loved each other.

"I'm so glad I found you," my mom had said to my dad. "You're perfect."

"So are you," my dad answered, looking in her eyes.

I wasn't bothered with this kind of talk. In fact, I was sort of relieved. I had grown to be very cautious of divorce ever since my best friend's parents had done it. And, looking at the pain she had to go through, I wasn't so sure I wanted to go through it."So you guys won't leave each other or something? Ever?" I asked them.

"Why would we?" My dad laughed.

Then, abruptly, my dream ended at this happy moment. I sat up, warm from my bedsheets and stretched, yawning.

"Alexis!" my mom called from downstairs. Her voice sounded strange, not as warm and inviting as it usually was. "We need to talk to you."

"Let me brush my teeth first!" I yelled.

"Okay! Take your time!"

Those words surprised me. My mother was usually very impatient and stubborn, sort of like me. She usually would've told me to hurry. In fact, her words also sounded really weary, which was weird for my energetic mom.

After I finished brushing my teeth, I ran downstairs.

My parents were standing before the table, their faces expressionless and cold. At the time, I didn't realize they weren't looking at each other. The thought just didn't cross my mind.

At first, I thought something had happened at school. What was wrong? Was there an accident? Did I get a bad grade? Was I expelled?

My mom spoke first. "Honey," she said. "Please sit down."

I sat down slowly, not knowing what to expect.

"I... don't know what to say," Mom stammered. "It's just..."

"What? Tell me!" I said, standing up abruptly and accidentally knocking the chair over. "What is it?"

"Your father and I.....we don't..." Mom said, trying to get the words out. She looked down at the table, avoiding my gaze.

"It's just... that... Oh, how do I explain this?"

"Oh, for crying out loud, woman!" Dad burst out. Then he looked at me, his eyes hard and intense.

"Alexis, We're getting a divorce!"
