Chapter 5

Gypsy had kept the box a secret from Onenn, which was uncommon, as everyone knew that they were as tight as           . Gypsy struggled with the secret, but kept it concealed within her knowledge, no one else’s.  Gypsy had missed a town meeting when she was visiting Onenn, but didn’t believe that it was of superior importance.

The next day, as Gypsy began on her way to her hidden ladder, she couldn’t help but overhear two girls gossiping to each other.

“I can’t believe you have to be 18 or older to visit Illone,” an auburn haired girl spat in disgust.

“It’s not like a 16 year old is going to set fire to the whole town!”

“Yeah, I know, right?” her friend agreed, flipping her raven black hair.

Gypsy watched the two fade into the hazy morning mist, and began to ponder over what she had heard. The town of Illone was open for visitors? Gypsy had heard of it, the new city that had yet to be fully populated. The town was not deserted, but there were still many new houses waiting to be claimed, as the city was meant to be a large one, with many attractions that would lure foreigners to visit often.

Today was reasonably foggier, and Gypsy had a difficult time navigating. Soon panic began to churn in her stomach, tightening into a suffocating knot. Gypsy was lost.

She felt around her, grabbing nothing but the empty air. Gypsy decided to turn around and head back, but the fog had only thickened. Gypsy wandered for a while, blood pulsing through her ears, and her heart pounding. When Gypsy felt human flesh, she nearly started crying.

“Excuse me?” came a man’s voice.

“I’m so sorry,” Gypsy automatically replied. “But where am I?”

The man sighed and said, “You 18 or older?”

Gypsy paused a moment, thinking that if she said no, she would be in hot water.

“Y-yes,” Gypsy stuttered, a little unsurely.

The man took a breath, hesitated, then said, “C’mon,” and helped her onto a wooden floor.
