Prologue

She was crying again.  It wasn’t the first time.  Nor the last.  Her mother had just died.  To be honest, I was almost as shocked as she was.  She was my best friend.  I guess she didn’t have the best of luck, after all.  But, what shocked me is it’s not fun to lose your mom at the age of eight.  I would have known. My dad died a year ago, when I was eight, too.  Not many people know the, horrible, gut-wrenching experience to have one of the people closest to you die at such an early age. I hugged her tight.  Her dad was in his room, but I could hear him crying, even though he was up-stairs.  I couldn’t help but cry, too.  It was sad.  Alyssa, the most loyal, best, funniest, and greatest friend ever, should have this happen to her.  My dad had gotten hit by a drunk driver, but her mom… She was just found dead in the floor of her kitchen.  Nobody knew what had happened to her.  Yet.
