Mel eyes danced around the room. Sketches of magical creatures were hung upon the walls. Hand-written books were thrown about the room, all about woodland fairies, trolls, goblins and other mystical creatures. Chills ran down Mel’s spine. A bottle of blue dragon fire was among the many shelves, along with the horn of a unicorn.

“This,” Began Rosalina, “is my study. When I was a little girl, I discovered a woodland fairy caught in the branches of my Father’s apple tree. I freed it and in return it gave me this ring. I do not know of it’s powers, but I do know if it is placed in the wrong hands, it can control and destroy anything magic. But you see, I am growing old. Goblins are after this ring, not for themselves but for a much more evil source. They are growing, closer and closer and I can not hide from them any more. So I am giving you this ring, protect it with your life."

She placed the ring in Mel’s open palm, and Mel grasped it tightly. Mel felt to overwhelmed to speak, so she ran. She sprinted up the stairs and through the kitchen, and busted though the back door. Suprisingly, she noticed their was a lake there, with a sandy shore lining it. Mel sat along the shore, half in denial, half in amazement. She didn’t know what to believe. So she sat there swimming in her thoughts and gazing out into the calm water. Remembering the ring, she took it out and studied it. It was gold with a big red ruby coiled up on it. Suddenly, a long, snake-like oddity with purple scales leaped out of the water and into the air. It was probably about 40 feet long with spikes upon it’s crest. Was it a sea serpent?

Bewildered, Mel inched closer to the water. She could sea the creature squirming closer and closer to the shore. Mel’s excitement turned into fear. The serpent burst out of the water and loomed over Mel, who was trembling and afraid. But she soon realized it was a kindly giant. Mel stepped closer and petted his smooth scales. “I shall call you… Dreamer.” Whispered Mel to Dreamer, who nuzzled her cheeks. He splashed back into the water and swam away.

Hurriedly, Mel came into the house and told Rosalina all about it. Rosalina nodded and smiled. “You are meant to hold the power of the ring. Now to help you better understand the whereabouts of the magical world, you must read all my books. Soon, you too with keep documents on you findings.” Mel scurried to the basement and began reading Rosalina’s guides. She slipped the ring on her finger. Goblins were coming, she could feel it.
