FIFTH excerpt of my story Powerless! Yay!

This is an excerpt that kind of depressed me to write about.  It's about the MC's brother.  Anyway, a lot of it is cut out so that it flows right with the song.  I suggest listening to this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SSDu1k8l318 from Avatar while you read it.  It makes it considerably sadder, especially if timed right.  I wrote it while listening to "Run" by Snow Patrol, so that would also be a soundtrack choice for this excerpt.  On with the writing!

As I let my eyes close, a nightmare that has not visited in a long time shows its ugly face again.

It’s ugly, painful, tear jerking face.

His minuscule little face. It felt so small and precious in my nine year old hands. His body, warm. But getting colder.

I saw his large hazel eyes. Just like mine. Slowly, they closed. And never opened again.

The few pieces of dark hair on his head. His fingers, stretched open. His skin still pink.

I didn’t even know his name yet. He never even had a name. It all happened too fast.

When I reached out and held him. He saw me. I was his last vision. As soon as my skin touched his, it was gone. He was gone.

Nameless. Dead.

He died on his birthday. He never came back.

My baby brother never came back.

I wake up, paralyzed. Maybe if I lay here long enough, my brother will appear in my lap.

It’s too bad that miracles don’t happen in my world.

If you don’t mind me asking, the willow says, catching me off guard. What was his name?

He didn’t have a name, I say, furious at the willow for reminding me.

But if you chose one?

I feel the willow’s bark prickling into my back and my anger disappears. Inquisitive. Can be plenty irritating. But good hearted.

Willows are just like me.

Was my brother like me? I think so.
