Gary lye in bed; his fluffy thick covers covering his body as he puzzled many questions he had, configuring them in his mind as he stared blankly at the wall across the room. Suddenly a whisper such as the hiss of a whispering wind echoed across the room.
“Pst,” came the voice quietly, repeating itself numerous times before walking through the threshold of the door.
“Liz?” said Gary as he turned in his bed, sitting up and reaching for the lamp. “NO!” shouted Liz, a bit louder than she had intended. “Don’t turn on the lamp, no one can know I’m here.”
“Why?” asked Gary, scrunching his face in curiosity as he relaxed his hand.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about it… you know; the dream,” said Liz as she drew nearer to the bed, her bright blue nightgown dragging on the rug as she went to sit on Gary’s bed.
“Neither can I,” said Gary, repositioning himself and dragging his covers farther up into his lap. “Something just didn’t feel right about it,” said Gary sloutching in his bed. “Yeah, like what was that thing… you know; the hooded creature,” said Liz, rubbing her hands on the fabric of the bed comforter.
“Something dark,” replied Gary, lifting his eyebrows and stretching his arms out to his sides.
“Well DA!” shouted Liz chuckling as she rearranged her seating on the edge of the bed, now turning her whole body towards Gary and lifting her feet onto the bed.
“Have you ever seen anything that looked like that and was good!” said Liz who smiled as she looked at Gary. “I suppose not,” said Gary, who had now realized how funny his comment had been. “And I guess that guy; the organ player was Horace’s father,” finished Gary. “Yeah… but the thing that confuses me is this. His father didn’t look older than 110; and I haven’t told you this yet, but when I was searching for you…” began Liz. “I saw Horace; and not a day younger than he is today.” “How is that possible?” asked Gary in confusion. “I don’t know,” said Liz, who pursed her lips and ruffled her forehead.
“Something doesn’t seem right about Horace,” said Gary. “I’m sure that’s one thing that we both completely agree on,” finished Gary. “I’m not sure,” said Liz in a very matter of fact tone. “What do you mean?” asked Gary, very surprised at her reply. “I don’t even know,” began Liz, who turned to stare at the dark brown walls. “I want to trust him…” said Liz.
“But can you?” asked Gary. “I don’t know,” said Liz who stood from the bed and went to walk from the room; but before she had passed through the door Gary shot one last question at her.
“What do you think that white light was?” asked Gary in curiosity. “I’m not sure,” began Liz who stared back at him. “But whatever it was; it saved us…” she said smiling. And with that she walked from the room, and faded into the shadows of Long Hall…
