The Gem of the Beach. Chapter 13!!!!! PLEASE READ AND COMMENT!!!!!

Chapter 13

    I walked down the sandy beach, barefoot, much like I did the day I found the stone. So much has gone and past since then. My life completely changed in all ways but one. My love for the beach.

    The sand coated my toes each time I took a step, making a small crunch sound until the wave blew on shore and carried the sand away. I watched it as it happened over and over again, taking my sweet time. After all, I probably wouldn't experience it for a long time.

    I listened as the waves crashed and bubbled on shore and when I listened closer, I heard the squishing of sand a distance to the right and behind me. But I wasn't startled or afraid.

    "Evan," I started. "I thought you would wait back at my house."

    The crunching in the sand sped up and slowed down as it neared me. Seconds later, he was standing beside me, hands in his pant's pockets. "Did you actually think I would let you walk off with the things I'm assigned to protect?"

    "Things, plural?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

    "Yap." He simply said with a smile, looking at the waves that silently traveled to the shore.

    I shrugged. I'd get the answer out of him eventually, though I thought I already knew it.

    I stopped walking, him following shortly after, though he faced away from me. "I'm going to miss this place." I said. Suddenly, he collapsed on the sand. Before I could rush up and help him, an arm slid around my neck and tightened. That's when I saw the dart sticking from Evan's neck.

    It was a trap.
