Chapter 4 An Excellent Basket Ball Player!

After school I walked around campus waiting for Dad to pick me up. As I was walking over by the PE room I heard the thudding of a basket ball. I turned the corner and who do I see dribbling the ball up and down the court? None other then Freddie.

Now, I just happen to be an EXCELLENT basket ball player. I crept up behind him as he was dribbling the ball in and out from underneath
him. I swooped down in a smooth and fast motion. I snatched the ball
with one hand and raced down the court. The cool air hit my face and
made my sandy blond hair whip through the air.

I flew down the court like an animal. I dribbled the ball back and forth, then in and out of my legs, around my waist and then turned around, jumped up and through the ball right smack-dab in the hoop. “SCORE!” I shouted, jumping up in the air; fists punching at the sky.

I used to play basket ball from 6th to 8th grade. My team had won
about 15 medals all throughout those years.

I turned to look at Freddie. He was still at the end of the court,
where I had left him, standing, staring, GAPING at me. “What?” I
asked.

He finally snapped out of his trance and walked towards me. “Where in the world did you learn those moves?!”

I smiled, “So I am actually better then you at something! I used to
play on the Bobcats’ basket ball team from 6th grade up till the end of last year.” I explained.

“How come you didn’t try out this year?” he asked.

“Well, the teacher’s mom died so she was depressed and I guess I just wasn’t the same player anymore.” I shrugged my shoulders. “As you can tell, though, I still can do all the moves.”

“Yeah,” Freddie came all the way up to me so he was standing about 2 ft away from me. “Listen, uhhhh, June. I, I was the one who called you last night.” he said.

“What?”

“I wanted to tell you, well, how I found out that you, liked me,
but, when you picked up the phone I kinda, well, got nervous.”

“Why would you get nervous?” I asked.

“I, I don’t know. I guess it was just my guy hormones acting up.” He said, kind of avoiding my eyes in all possible ways. “I wanted to tell you that, my friend, Jeff, REALLY likes you. He wanted me to spy on you since I have 4 classes with you. I over heard you talking to Deanna about me and I heard you telling her about a dream you had... about me kissing you.” he said, blushing now.

“You, you, you heard it?” I asked, my face growing hot. My hands began to sweat and I set the ball on the ground. He was blushing? I should be running!

“Yeah, I guess I did. And I still haven’t broken it to Jeff yet. I was going to ask you, also... would YOU tell him?”

“What?! Me?! Heck no!” Freddie gave me a pleading look. “Well, I uhhhh, okay.” I said, giving in.

Smiling suddenly Freddie grabbed the ball out of my hands and ran passed me. “Maybe you could show me just how good GIRLS can play basket ball!” he called.

I sneered, “Okay, but you better brace yourself!” I chased after
him. Maybe today wasn’t such a waist of time after all...
