Chapter 6 Slow Dancing With Freddie

Friday. The dance. Deanna and I had bought our tickets on Monday, no way were we going to miss THIS dance! It was the Winter Dance, the Winter Formal to be exact, and anyone who matters was going to be there!

“One more period, 5 more hours and 20 minutes until the dance!” I whispered to Deanna as we walked to our last period. I had GATE while, just across from the GATE room, Deanna had Agriculture.

“I know! I can’t wait! Do you know if HE’S going?” she asked.
“He is, with no date, too.” I told her.

“Freddie? No date? That’s new!”

“I know, I was thinking the same thing!” I replied.

We broke apart and I walked up the ramp into GATE. Freddie was
just coming out of the doorway.

“Where are you going?” I asked.

“The Boy’s room.” he replied quickly.

“Why did I ask?” I walked into the classroom and seated my self. It was a good thing that Mr. Carlson was a fun teacher or else the class would’ve seemed to go on forever!

54 minutes later I grabbed my bag and walked out of the class. 4
more hours and 20 minutes! Oh boy!

3 hours and 30 minutes later I was curling my hair, putting on
lipstick, eyeliner and face makeup. I was wearing a long, red, dress with black sparkles on it and a black shall to go over it. I was wearing black tights with red high-heal sandals. I had bright red lip-stick on and you couldn’t see any acne on my face what-so-ever.

“I’m ready, Mom!” I called, walking down the staircase.

“No you’re not!” Livia came rushing up to me and quickly rapped
a silver chain with a small red heart at the bottom around my neck. “It was mine for the Winter Formal. I know you don’t believe in good luck or anything, but, just in case...” Livia smiled then turned and walked upstairs to her room.

I fingered the necklace between my fingers. ‘What’s a little luck?’

I arrived at the school auditorium around 6:55pm (obviously). I
met up with Deanna in line.

“Here we go!” she said, smiling excitedly.

“Here we go...” I repeated quietly. As soon as we got on the dance
floor my stomachs did flip-flops. Why was I so nervous?

I immediately started looking for Freddie. I soon found him. He
was in all black. Black pants, a black tux with a red tie. His brown
spiked hair was now down and wavy. He had never looked better.

I walked around the dance floor, spied on Freddie most of the
time and danced to the music. Most of the slow songs I walked around
and made sure Freddie wasn’t dancing with anyone. On the last slow
song, though, my luck had run out.

I spotted Shianne, an up-tight, snotty, mean, popular girl, slow
dancing with Freddie! I couldn’t believe it!
“June! He’s, he’s, he’s dancing with Shianne!” Deanna cried, running
up to me. I was sitting on the side in some of the chairs lined up against the auditorium.

I felt like crying. “I know Deanna! I know!” I dug my head in my
hands. Freddie usually had a date, but it just wasn’t the same if he didn’t have a date, and then found a dancing partner. Especially someone like Shianne!

“Alright!, that was the last song for tonight everyone!” the DJ
came on the speaker and ushered us out.

“I have to go to the bathroom!” I cried suddenly. I took off
running. I excited the auditorium. I ran down the school halls and over to my locker. I leaned against it and sobbed.

“What do you mean, Freddie?” Shianne’s voice, coming from... down the hall?!
