Chapter 9 Dad's Mistletoe

“Hey June.” Freddie said. Deanna smiled and quickly rushed away.

“I’m gunna go talk to Livia.” she said.

“Hey Freddie.” I replied. After a long pause, “So, do you uhhhh, like the party?” I asked.

“Oh, yes, it’s very, cool.” he replied.

“Yeah,” I nodded slightly and looked away. What was he doing?

“June!” I turned to look at him quickly. “Would you, like to dance?” he asked, suddenly.

I’m serious, my heart almost stopped. What did he just say? “Ummmm, sure.” I replied. He smiled and took my waist. I didn’t know I could even dance, but yet, here I was, dancing with... Freddie.

”Listen to your heart... before you say goodbye...” The song seemed to last forever. I began to lean into his chest and he smiled, encouraging me not to resist. I came in close and rested my head on his chest. We seemed to be dancing the whole night.

Suddenly, the music began to fade. We were in a darker place. We
were in the family room! ‘Did we dance here?’ I wondered.

Freddie let my arms fall and we stared at each other. “Freddie, I
don’t understand, I thought...”

“Shhhh,” he said, putting a finger to my lips. He pointed up and I was surprised to see a branch of mistletoe that Dad had given to my mother through the mail a week ago. ‘Dads’ mistletoe.’ I thought.

I looked up into Freddie’s light brown eyes. He smiled and leaned in. It was a moment, just a moment, a few precious seconds, but that
was all I wanted. The warmth and sensation that I felt when we kissed would never leave me.

We broke apart and looked deeply at each other. “Does this mean-? Does this mean that, you liked me all along?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“But, I thought...”

“I started liking you as I continued to spy on you. I learned more
about your personality. Actually, it was all Jeff. If he had never liked you, well, we wouldn’t be here.” Freddie explained.

“So, all that time... and I didn’t know? Then why did you dance with Shianne?” I asked.

“She asked, and, she was almost crying because her date didn’t come. I told her at first she should ask Zach but she said she would rather dance with me. Then, after the dance...”

“She asked you if you would be her BF.” I finished.

“Uh, yeah, how did you know tha-“

”We have a lot to talk about, but for now, I think we should go
back out to the dance floor.” I interrupted him.

He smiled. “Sure, why not?” We laughed and hugged as we made
our way out into the living room again.

Chapter 11 Last Chapter
It was a month later. We already had had our Christmas break and
were now back in school. Dad had come home and we told him all about the 6 months he had missed while he was away. I introduced Freddie to him and he said we could be together! Like, Boyfriend and Girlfriend! It was awesome! Freddie and I are going to the movies
tonight to see King Kong. Well, Livia is coming too with her BF but
Freddie and I don’t have to sit next to them. (*Snickers*).

Shianne was still pretty mad at Freddie especially when we came back
to school holding hands. But - turns out she got together with Jeff!
They actually are a good couple. Even if Shianne is only nice to JEFF and not anyone else, but, at least I know she CAN be nice.

“Alls well that ends well.” I said gripping Freddie’s hand. He turned and gave me his familiar smile.

“I couldn’t agree more.”

Bradley and Deanna met up with us later that day and we all went
to the mall together.

Everything seemed like it could never be better. I got the guy I
wanted. Freddie is just happy to be with someone who he knows about.
Deanna and Bradley are still my best friends. Jeff and Shianne can forget all about the previous happenings and I got to see my dad before he went away again.

Yep, everything was how it was supposed to be...

“Freddie,” I whispered in his ear.

“Yeah?” he leaned in; listening closely.

“I know that you know that I know that you like me.” I whispered.

“Wha-?” he looked at me confused then smiled, “Oh.” He squeezed my hand tighter and I leaned up against him.

Yes, everything is how it is supposed to be......
