''... and, well, that's it.'
My voice trails off, and I meet Dad's eyes, which are narrowed.
'Well, Indiana, first of all....'
He shrugs and looks at me apologetically. 'What you're doing right now is poking your nose into another person's buisness.' I roll my eyes.
'Oh, come on, please, Dad! I just want to know, that's all. It's not like it's going to be personal or anything to do with him!'
I trail off, realizing that I sound defensive, and remembering the hypothesis I made of the nerdy girlfriend.
All right.
OK.
I wrench that thought out of my mind and listen to my dad as he continues, 'I can't really tell you what to do next. If you think that you really want to find out...'
Whoa. It's happening again. His voice is trailing off, and he's looking into the distance, frowning slightly.
Maybe all that research really got to him.
'What did you say the boy's name was?' 'Liam. Liam Rheston.' 'Rheston? Really?' I nod, my eyebrows raised. 'Do you know his dad's name?'
I shake my head.
'Well, look it up. That boy in your class might very well be the heir to the fortune of James Rheston, the art transportationist. It numbers in the millions, I might add' - 'Really? Well, I wouldn't put it past him,' I say ruefully. He smiles. 'That stuck-up, eh?'
I roll my eyes. 'You have no idea.'
