Microfiction #3

in in my tiny cubicle / private vacuum with books and random dancing

It had been years since light had touched Earth. All warmth had been stripped from the planet a few eons back, like a light switch suddenly turned off by a mysterous hand. The Earth was left dark and desolate in an equally dark and desolate universe. Nothing but darkness. A piece of murky black.

Out of nowhere, a shaft of light stabbed the air. The luminous glow streaked through the nebulous atmosphere, commanding attention to itself. Suddenly, a sensible, strident voice rang out, "This is stupid. Somebody turn the lights back on."

The suspense broken, the whole thing turned out to be merely a cluster of students around a globe in a dark room shining flashlights. Talk about an anticlamactic let-down.
