Katie was sitting on a park bench, letting Doduo run around and stretch its legs. She was munching an apple, and every now and again Doduo would run over and steal a bite from the apple, making Katie jump. A bush rustled. As Doduo passed it, a girl exploded from it, yelling, "Ke-YAW! I've got myself a fine Doduo here!" Katie quickly returned Doduo. She was afraid of pokemon, but she still didn't want to lose her only one.
"Hey! No fair! I had dibs," complained the girl, standing up and brushing herself off. "Hi! I'm Veronica! Who are you?" Katie introduced herself and got a good look at the girl.
She didn't seem the type who hid in bushes. She had on a pink and black dress, wearing a pink boa around her neck. Her shoes had high heels, and her hair was pinned up with a jewled hairpin. Her eyes were bright bllue, and she had long blonde hair.
"Hmm... so that Doduo is yours... that means you're a pokemon trainer, right?" Veronica cried. She continued, not giving Katie a chance to answer, "So then I challenge you to a battle!" Katie groaned and rolled her eyes.
"If that's what you want," she muttered. "Go, Doduo." Veronica tossed her first pokeball up so high, it became hard to see. Out of it came a Bidoof. Veronica cried, "Go, darling Biddy! Make me proud! Use your Tackle attack!" The Bidoof ran faster and faster until it was almost at where Doduo... had been. Doduo had already raced across the clearing.
"Go, Doduo! Use Peck," said Katie with little enthusiasm. She really didn't care much for battling. Doduo pecked Bidoof and it fainted.
"Oh, NO!" cried Veronica. "Darling Biddy! Oh, very well, I can just use Pippy!" She threw out another pokeball, this time with a Piplup inside of it. "Pippy, use your Aqua Jet attack," cried Veronica, eyes wide with excitement. The Piplup exploded with a jet of water that almost hit Doduo. Almost. Doduo had already run halfway across the clearing.
"Go, Doduo, use Quick Attack," said Katie, a little more excited. It was hard not to be wowed when feeling the rush of battling. Doduo ran around and around the clearing until at last it hit Piplup with stunning force and it fainted. Veronica's eyes were so wide that Katie thought it a miracle that they weren't jumping off her face.
"Oh, very well," Veronica muttered, clentching her teeth. "You can't defeat this one... GO! ONNY!" She hurled a pokeball into the air and out came an Onix.
"You know," muttered Katie to herself, "I'm beginning to think this girl likes to give her pokemon weird names. Anyhow, go, Doduo! Use your Doubleteam!" Doduo ran around and around and around. Katie felt a rush of adrenaline and yelled, "Now, Doduo, use your Peck!" Doduo flew at the Onix and pecked it.
The Onix sat.
Doduo used Quick Attack and hit it as hard as it could.
The Onix sat.
Doduo began to get frustrated and began to smash both of its heads into the Onix's body.
The Onix sat.
At last, after a long time of useless tries, Doduo fell to the ground, exaughsted. The Onix, in one swift move, binded Doduo.
Doduo fainted.
"Haha! I knew I'd win! My pokemon are so much better than yours..." Veronica was yelling and shouting and bragging. Katie tuned her out, returned Doduo, and began walking toward the nearest pokemon center.
"Hey! Where are you going?" Veronica yelled after her. "We should do this again sometime, new rival!" This shot a bolt of anger through Katie, but she ignored it and kept walking.
If she wanted to survive in this world, she would have to get more pokemon. And fast.
