Chapter Two:

Arianna was sleeping in her room, while Mary and Jonathan were tidying up the living room.

“…so Jane went into labor today?” Jonathan asked.

Mary nodded, Jane’s baby wasn’t due yet, he still had a month to go. But Mary suddenly got an unexpected phone call two hours ago from Jane saying she was having pains in her stomach.

The phone started to ring; Mary jumped out of her seat and rushed over to it.

“Hello?” Mary asked, hoping it was going to be Jane.

“Mary?” Larry said on the other line, “We have a son, we named him Jacob Perry Hogan.”

“Oh, that’s great,” Mary said, “Well, congratulations!”

After a while of discussing some things about parenting she said goodbye and went upstairs to check on Arianna. Arianna’s room was a perfect little girl’s room; everything was covered in pink from the top to the bottom. The only thing that wasn’t pink was some blankets, clothes, and she had a purple rocking chair. Mary walked over to the bassinet.

“Are you awake?” Mary asked in unison. “You’re so pretty,”

Arianna smiled, she was so pretty.

“You want to go see Daddy?” Mary asked.

Mary picked Arianna up and took her downstairs to her Father.

“Arianna,” Jonathan said, “Did you have a nice nap?”

The next day was a very hectic day, Arianna was crying the whole entire day. Of course, Jonathan had to work, so Mary was left taking care of her. She laid the baby on the couch; she went over to the closet to get some toys when she found a wrapped present.

“Oh my,” Mary said to herself, “I totally forgot to open the gift Jillian gave me,”

Jillian was Mary’s best friend. She was currently living in Chicago, but she visited for the baby shower. She opened the present and there inside the box was a dark pink teddy bear, as soon as Arianna saw it, she stopped crying. Mary was confused; could a teddy bear really make her stop crying? All the gifts that Jillian always gave Mary had always had an effect on her, in a good way, though. They always made her happy, or it would make her calm, like the CD Jillian gave her for her birthday. That was the magic toy, whenever Arianna would cry; the teddy bear would suddenly wipe those tears away and make her happy. It was Jillian’s love that always did that. About a month after Mary found the teddy bear in the closet, she told Arianna something,

“Your grandma told me to tell you this, always follow your heart,”

Mary told Arianna this every day. Arianna and Jacob were more than friends, they became best friends.
