Noah drove around aimlessly for hours. He realized he didn’t have many options. Noah couldn’t go to Johnny, because his parents, no matter how cool, would turn Noah in in a heartbeat. He couldn’t go to Grace, because he knew her parents were like his dad, super strict. Then Noah thought of one thing. No Name. No Name was staying alone, even if it was in a card board box. Noah turned the car around and headed toward the alley where No Name stayed. It was beginning to rain slightly, small drops hitting the car with a strange metallic plink. Noah continued down the road. The rain started to come down harder, and in a matter of seconds, the clouds opened up and it started to pour. Noah turned his windshield wipers on. He still could barely see. Noah swore as his visibility went to zero. Then as Noah picked up speed, the car began to sway side to side, and Noah could barely control it. Suddenly the car swerved violently, and into the other lane.
“Come on! Dang it!†Noah was growing more frustrated by the second.
Then two yellow circles appeared in the water. A horn honked wildly.
“AHHHHH!â€
Tires screeched. Noah’s eyes went wide as the grill of the truck came into view. There was a deafening crunch.
And everything went dark.
Noah’s dad sat on the couch. He knew he should do something, but he was too shocked to do anything. His son, little Noah, had stood up to his father, who Noah had looked up to most of his life. Noah’s dad was angry, but at the same time, strangely proud. Noah had stood up for something he loved. Noah’s dad felt himself wondering what Noah’s mother would think of her son. Noah’s mother had died in a car accident when Noah was only 2 years old. As Noah’s dad sighed in anguish, the phone began to ring.
“Hello?†Noah’s father answered.
“Is this Mr. Zobster?†A woman’s voice asked.
“Yes, it is.â€
“I have some bad news.†The woman said, her voice growing quieter.
“What?†Noah’s dad asked, straightening up.
“Your son, Noah has been in an accident. His car was hit by a truck after it involuntarily swerved into oncoming traffic. He’s alive, but in critical condition.†The woman said, her voice cracking slightly.
“Oh no… Oh no, oh no. This can’t be happening.†Noah’s dad shook his head in disbelief.
“You can come to the hospital….â€
“Yes, yes, okay, I’ll be there, please, please take care of my son.â€
Noah’s dad hung up the phone. He jogged out the door and jumped into the car.
“Noah, please be okay.†Noah’s dad said to himself.
