Chapter 4

AMY FELT SORE ALL OVER. CLARK STAYED WITH HER, worried that something else would go wrong. He allowed Fava, Lance, and Ashlynn to come in while she was sleeping, so he could talk to them.
“What the hell were you thinking?!” Clark harshly whispered to Lance and Fava. They looked at each other.
“She couldn’t… correction… she wouldn’t do the job as somebody who was pregnant, so we took care of that. We have a plan, Clark.” Fava snapped. Clark’s eyes flared and she took a step back, along with Lance.
“It was wrong and you know it. What’s you plan?” Clark growled, peeking inside back at Amy.
“When we depart, we are making a clone Ashley, Amy, and Clark. They will be exactly like you. They will do the things you normally do, be able to interact. They are real, at least it seems. We will place the real baby inside the fake, Amy, making sure that if anything were to happen to this Amy, the baby would automatically come back to our Amy.” Lance explained. “But we are sure that won’t happen. We told Amy we would give you three a couple of days to gather your stuff and think about things, we will go back to the council in the meantime and…”
Clark heard nothing after this. He looked back in at Amy again. He was so transparent.
“Leave the baby here…” Clark said subconsciously, looking back to Lance when he had finished talking. Lance looked to Fava and nodded. Fava opened up her palm and held it over Clark’s hands.
“Sacora.” She whispered. A bright light glistened in-between Clarks and Fava’s hands. Clark closed his eyes, focusing on the baby. He opened his palms to see his child, writhing around in its little casing. He smiled warmly, closing his hands reluctantly.
“I’ll see them off.” Ashlynn said, also smiling. “And cook dinner.” Clark kissed her forehead and went back in to Amy. She let her eyes flutter open as he knelt down by her side. He opened his hands so she could see the baby. Her eyes glimmered, and you could tell that she was happy. You could tell even if she didn’t have a huge smile on her face. She put her finger out towards the baby, but it flew right through the image.
“What’s the plan?” Amy croaked. Clark handed her a glass of water from the desk.
“I’ll tell ya later.” Clark promised. Amy nodded, swinging her legs off of the bed. Clark put his hand on her leg, ushering her to lay back down.
“It’s boring…” Amy whined, doing so regardless.
“What if we watch a movie.” Clark motioned to the TV. Amy smiled.
“You get the popcorn, I’ll set it up.” Amy said, sitting up. Clark raised his eyebrows. Draping his body over hers to get her to lay down.
“I’ll get the popcorn, Ashlynn will get it set up.” Clark argued. Amy sighed, rolling her eyes.
“Fine.” She admitted defeat. “But you owe me a kiss.” Clark laughed and shrugged.
“No problem.” He silenced Amy with a quick kiss before he stood, straightening out his shirt. He walked out the door, smiling warmly. “Ashlynn! We are watching a movie in the bedroom if you want to join us!” Ashlynn walked out from the kitchen.
“Sure.” She smiled. “I’ll set it up.”
Clark walked into the kitchen, popping the popcorn, leaning up against the counter. Enjoy the moments while you can…

That day they watched a movie. Several movies actually. They were a normal family. For now. Amy knew what was coming… death, destruction, pain, choices, changes, chances, love, and worry. But she was okay with that. It would actually be nice to be on an adventure again. It had been long enough.
Although Clark told Amy to stay in bed until the next day at the very least, she decided against it. She organized the room, always reappearing in the bed the moment Clark would walk in. He would notice the changes of course, and would just smile to himself, and occasionally sigh and roll his eyes. You just had to love, Amy…

The couple of days went quick. They did the normal routine to make sure neighbors didn’t notice anything. Amy would have to put a pillow under her shirt to maintain the “pregnant look” to her distaste, and Clark had to map some things out, packing what they would need.
He packed some of their magical possessions, such as the ring and necklace that Amy and Clark owned. The ring, which Clark wore, allowed him to see spirits, and the necklace, which Amy wore, allowed her to touch spirits. They basically had all of the same abilities, except for Amy was more powerful.
Amy was the only Visionary on the face of the planet. Her father had been a Visionary, but had died in a fire several years back. Amy’s and Clark’s powers combined would be un-imaginable strength… they had seen that once.
Amy moved herself out onto the porch. It was going to be their last day home. Home. That word had sounded so good, but Amy missed her old life. Moving around, fighting evil, dying who knows how many times. Well she didn’t miss that, but still. It was a part of the job. Then of course being brought back to life…
She smiled, taking in the fresh air. It was night, the stars were shining brightly. It felt good to NOT be pregnant, although she wished she still was. She didn’t like the thought of her baby out of her body. It did feel good, but everything that she wanted fought against that feeling. She sighed sitting down in the rocking chair. She looked to the screen door as Ashlynn peeked her head out. She smiled warmly to Amy and walked out onto the porch, sitting next to her.
“I talked to Lance…” She mentioned. I looked over at her, glaring.
“You are OLDER than him.” Amy spelled out. Ashlynn grinned.
“I know, I know.” Ashlynn smiled. She was blushing. “I wanted to know something and… I’m going to have to become a spirit again. They are going to turn me. They said they can turn me back-”
“No.” Amy said quickly, turning, taking Ashlynn’s hands. “No, I won’t let that happen again.” Amy stared at Ashlynn with sympathy. Ashlynn looked away.
“You’re wearing your necklace.” Ashlynn noted. Amy looked down and then looked up at Ashlynn with alarm. She shrugged.
“I’m sorry Amy.” Amy quickly took off her necklace. She tried to put her hand on Ashlynn’s, but her hand simply fell through. Amy shook her head. Amy rushed inside the house and up to Ashlynn’s room. Ashlynn appeared beside her, a sad look in her eyes. Ashlynn’s body was laying on the bed, asleep. Amy looked beside her. A bottle of Amy’s medication lay there. Amy turned to face Ashlynn, glaring. Ashlynn took a few steps back as Amy sat down.
“DO YOU KNOW WHAT CLARK AND I WENT THROUGH TO MAKE YOU HUMAN? IS THIS HOW YOU REPAY US?” Amy screamed at Ashlynn. “Why can’t you ever listen.” Ashlynn looked away, ashamed. Clark jumped up the stairs, going to Amy.
“Sh… you’ll wake Ashlynn. Why are you yelling at the-” He smiled but then stopped. His smile faded. “Amy, what’s wrong.” Amy looked to Ashlynn. Clark wasn’t wearing his ‘special’ ring.
“You know this will destroy him!” Amy yelled at Ashlynn. Ashlynn looked down, tears in her eyes.
“This is the only way I can help.” Clark jumped, looking over at the sleeping Ashlynn.” He went over to the body.
“Ash…? Come on Ashlynn. Wake up…” He began to shake her body. Her head dropped. Clark looked to Amy who was on the ground, her back against the wall. “Ashlynn!” Clark screamed.
“I’m sorry, Clark.” Ashlynn began to sob.
“Where are you?” He panicked, looking ready to collapse himself. Ashlynn appeared beside him and touched his hand. Clark found the rest of her body, wrapping his arms around her. He hugged her tight. “No…” Clark groaned.
“I had to do it. Lance said he can turn me back when the missions over, I’ll be fine.” Ashlynn promised.
Clark groaned, and walked over to Amy. He sat down next to her shaking body. He picked her up, placing her in his lap. He sighed.
“Hey… it’s only for the time being.” Clark sighed, sounding unsure of himself. Amy shook her head.
“I didn’t know what I was getting into…” Amy confessed, a hot tear running down her cheek. Clark ran his fingers through her long hair.
“Neither of us did…” He admitted. He looked to where he was sure Ashlynn was. “You could have waited a day…” He laughed. Ashlynn did too, wiping her eyes.
“I guess.” She smiled. “In that case, I went to bed early… I have to go to the council for the night; I’ll…see… you guys in the morning.” Amy saw Ashlynn disappear and she slumped further against the wall. Clark sighed, standing. He helped Amy up and put a hand on her lower back, leading her into their room. Clark laid back on the bed. Both of them were too tired to get changed into sleeping clothes. What they were wearing was fine. Amy laid back on the bed, laying herself flat. She took a deep breath, letting it out and looked to Clark, cocking her head. He smiled and lay on his side, facing her. He put his head in his hand, looking into Amy’s eyes.
Amy looked down at her stomach sadly. She put her hand across it and so did Clark. She looked back up at him, turning her back to him so he could pull her in close to his body. Their every breath coordinated as they were both silent.
“I miss this…” Amy finally spoke. Clark looked to her with a strange expression. Amy turned around, still as close to him, though now she was looking up into his eyes. “We stopped being so… close to each other after we gave up our powers. We weren’t afraid of dying or getting hurt… I miss that feeling, surprise; being so close to you… it’s nice to be reminded of that…” Clark smiled, thinking about it and kissed her forehead.
“It is nice…” Clark confessed as she turned back around, curling up. He was afraid he was going to lose her, to something if not to death. He pulled her tighter as she snuggled up comfortably against him. It was only moments later when he heard her gentle, slow breathing. He kissed the top of her head, slinking down, laying his head on the pillow. He smiled. This is where he would normally have to get up and turn off the lights… groan about it some, and go to bed. He looked over at the lights. He felt a tug and the light switches automatically turned down. But he hadn’t done anything… He raised his eyebrows.
“Goodnight, Clark…” Ashlynn’s voice spoke in the dark. Clark smiled.
“Night, Ash… goodnight Amy…” He turned to face her, kissed her forehead once more, and let his body relax and sleep take him over.
