Chapter 2

Jewel

As Adam hit the ground, his wind was knocked out. He felt strange, and weak. He stared up to see a girl, about his age, and two adults. A female, and a male, probably married. He got up slowly, not sure if that was the right choice. The parents nodded towards their child, and disappeared. Adam looked at his parents. The girl nodded, and told Adam’s parents they would get delivered in a cart. She called out a driver, who escorted Adam’s parents onto the cart. Adam stared at her. She was wearing a gown, red. She nodded at him, too. “Come on, let us go now.” She said.

Adam did not want to “Go now”. He shook his head, and dashed off, fast. He was indeed, a fast runner. Then, he screeched to a halt. The girl had appeared RIGHT in front of him. He stepped back, not sure either to scream, or to faint. He had no choice, for it was at that moment that he was half picked up, half thrown over her shoulder. She looked at him, then dashed off, super quick. He felt slightly scared by how fast the run was. So that was why she had out run him easily.

The girl was dashing quickly, increasing speed. He felt himself swaying, then, she stopped. I got off, sort of tumbling to the floor. When I got up, I saw a humongous mansion. She looked at me, and motioned for me to go into the house.

When we entered, we were greeted by the girl’s parents. “So, this is the boy. Right, Jewel?” she asked. Jewel nodded. So THAT was her name. Adam smiled shyly at the mom. Her eyes were red. Something quite scary. “Uh..may I have something to eat?” he asked. She laughed. “Sure, it’s on the table.” Jewel muttered, “You little pig.” Adam didn’t know whether to laugh or not. He didn’t. He walked over to the table, which was pretty large. Then his stomach ate sandwiches, salads, and best of all, cake. Jewel looked at me disapprovingly, but she soon gave up and started eating herself. If you were to look at Adam, and then Jewel, you would probably think we were water and oil. Adam was stuffing food into my mouth, and she was taking them one by one. Adam got up when I saw my parents walk in, and immediately started using some table manners. Then, he noticed something. His parents, and Jewel’s parents, were exchanging very fierce glares. It seemed as if they thought they could pierce one another with their eyes. Adam tried to not let this bother him. He continued eating, slowly. That was hard to do. Then, he heard Jewel get called over by her mom. He overheard them talking to each other.

“What is it Mom?” Jewel asked. Jewel’s mother sighed. “Honey, you can’t treat these creatures THAT nice. They…they’re humans.”  She muttered. Jewel didn’t need to hear anymore. She stomped off to Adam. “You’re wrong about that Mom. Let’s go…” she stood there, not sure what to say. “Adam. Adam Johnson.” Adam muttered, finishing Jewel’s sentence. She nodded. They stomped out of the building, and down into the streets.

Jewel and Adam were talking most of the time. Jewel complained about her school, and Adam complained about his too. They ended up laughing a couple times. By the end of their walk (an hour later), they had been giggling all the way into their house. Their parents looked worried when they came into the house. Jewel’s mother apologized about what she said, but didn’t change her face when she looked at Adam’s family. Adam groaned. Jewel laughed (for what reason, he don’t know). She told Adam that we would meet every 2 days, and that the families should meet every week. Then, Adam left the mansion.

Jewel was enjoying it. She was going to turn 10 in only 5 days. However, being what she was, she wasn’t exactly 9. She was actually 5124, and delayed her aging for a long time. She was looking out the window when all of a sudden, Adam burst through the door. He was back with the burgers. “I got all of them. 4.” He gave Jewel 2 burgers, and he ate another 2. She shook her head. “You can have the other two.” Adam looked up, not knowing why she was so sad. “What is it?” he asked. “Oh, it’s nothing.” She said. Adam frowned. He was not sure that it WAS nothing. Then, 3 days before Jewel’s birthday, she asked if he should come to her house on the birthday. The strangest thing was Adam felt an urge at that time to explode. Adam said that I would come. Then he walked home, and then he went to bed.

His dream was strange. He saw Jewel. Then, she looked at him. Adam saw fangs. They looked awfully strange…then he knew…she…was…a…

Darkness.
