Without a Trace: Chapter Five

Chapter Five

The next day, Lily, Jose, and David were at the scene before CSI was.  It was another couple of hours before they arrived. 

They scrapped all the evidence they could muster, but nothing made sense.  Until,

“Lily, David!  Get your butts over here! You’re going to want to see this!”  Jose’s voice called out.

They rushed down the apartment stairs.

There was a small trampoline where Carrie had jumped. 

“And that ain’t all.”  David pointed out. “Look!”  He lifted up a large chunk of field, and there was a hidden tunnel!

“So that’s how she escaped…”  Lily’s voice trailed off.

After a few minutes, they had CSI on the tunnel while they checked the apartment.

Nothing but dead ends.

“I wonder if there’s any soda I can have.”  Jose said sarcastically, opening the freezer door.  Something very large fell out.  All guns were pointed at it immediately.  But it was no threat.

It was the dead body of none other, than Mrs. Carrie Trey.
