Chapter 11
I ran outside of the café and joined the crowd of shrieking witches and wizards. Some of them were throwing spells at the giant, but it was no use. The giant was too big to feel the shock for the spells.
I searched the crowd for Jake.
Then, a hooded figure appeared behind the giant.
“It’s the Amazing Hooded Wizard!” someone cried from the crowd.
Everyone started to clap and cheer.
“Forte Desino!” the hooded person cried. It was a boy. His voice sounded familiar…
A streak of ruby red light emitted from his hands and hit the giant in the area where his heart should be.
The giant stood there for a moment, then shocks of electricity surrounded and zapped him like he had been electrocuted. After a few minutes, he keeled over.
Cheers cried from the crowd. The boy bowed and I saw spikes of dark brown hair peek out of his hood.
I crossed my arms, displeased. How could Jake do that to me?
I turned and stormed back into the café.
I slid back into the booth.
“Forte Desino… Forte means strong… Desino is the spell for stop… Strong stop…?” I said to myself.
A few minutes passed then Jake came back to the booth. He slid into his seat, smiling.
“I was in the bathroom,” he said, still smiling.
“For all that time?” I asked, staring at him long and hard.
“Upset stomach,” he replied.
“Oh, okay.” I looked out the window. There was a long silence between us. I finally said, “Forte Desino. Strong stop. Gotta remember that spell,” I said, not looking at him.
Jake laughed. “Yeah, it’s one of my fav-” He paused and stopped himself from saying anymore. “It’s one of my sister’s favorite spells,” he corrected, clearing his throat and pulling at his collar again.
I looked over at him. “I saw you. I saw your hair and heard your voice. Why didn’t you tell me you were the Amazing Hooded Wizard?” I smiled at him. “I’ve read about you. My sisters Bonnie and Brianna go crazy over you.”
He scratched the back of his head. “Yeah, I get that a lot. My parents say I’m a wizard wonder. Jeanette is actually the Mysterious Pandora. My parents made up the names,” Jake said.
“Nick goes all in love mode with the Mysterious Pandora. He thinks she’s hot, but the most he’s seen of her is her wavy, blonde hair,” I laughed.
Jake smiled. “Well, I guess we’d better get going.” He slipped out of his seat. “Our date and what I told you is all a secret.”
“Of course,” I said, smiling at him.
“Promise?” he asked, putting a hand up. His hand was scratched and bloody too.
I put my hand on his as if we were going to high five. “I promise,” I whispered.
A bright, yellow circle appeared around our hands, joining them together, making our promise pure and unbreakable.
