Chapter 1
Ember
Ember. Come to me. Come...
Those red eyes. I can't get them out of my head.
I threw off my blankets and wiped my forehead, drenched in sweat. I don't know why I even bothered to cover myself in blankets. Maybe I thought they provided comfort. Instead, they addec to my misery, twisting around me. Trapping me.
Getting up and hoping no one would be downstairs, I opened my door and made my way down the dark hallway. I knew the way to the stairs, even in complete darkness.
Darn it. There was a light in the kitchen. Probably my dad, sneaking in some time to read. I headed straight to the refridgerator, hoping he's so lost in the world of his book he ignored me. No luck.
"What are you doing up so late?" he said, looking at me through his thin wire-rimmed reading glasses.
"Nothing. Couldn't sleep," I mumbled, pouring some milk into a tall glass and throwing in some heaping spoonfuls of cocoa mix.
"Bad dream?"
"Mmm."
"I see," he said, chuckling. "Any scary monsters? Ones with big, red, eyes?"
I know he was just teasing me, but I fell silent, trying to not imagine my nightmare.
"Huh, Ember?" Dad laughed.
"Shut up!" The glass of unheated cocoa dropped from my hand, shattering on the cold tiled floor. I ran back up the stairs, avoiding the startled look I got from my dad, and hurtled onto my bed, trying to block out the memories of those eyes, that voice, trying to capture me...
I didn't try to sleep. What was the point?

Creepily...eerily...
EPYK!
I like the name Ember! It sounds much more exotic than Amber! Though they're pronounced the same...well, it looks more exotic!
Instead, they addec to my misery, twisting around me. Trapping me. <--- I love that phrase! Just a little typo...you could see it yourself...
