How to Ditch Your Fairy is a fun, lighthearted read that's chock-full of hilarious Australian slang, funny scenes and great characters. If you're looking for a story that has a touch of magic, a touch of romance and a lore more than a touch of humour, then this book's a great choice. A fairly quick, easy read, it can be a nice change of pace.
Basically, it's the story of Charlie, a teenage girl living in the fictional town of New Avalon... a town where everyone has their own personal fairy.
Each fairy only convers one aspect of life, though. Charlie's best friend Rochelle has a clothes-shopping fairy, that lets her find gorgeous clothes for fantastic prices. Her locker-neighbour Bluey has a dog fairy, that makes every dog his friend. Her mother has an always-know-what-your-kids-are-doing fairy, that makes it terribly hard for Charlie and her little sister to misbehave. Her arch-nemesis has an all-the-boys-like-you fairy, which kind of speaks for itself.
And Charlie? She has a parking fairy. Any car she rides in always finds the perfect parking spot. Of course, this isn't the greatest fairy to have when you're too young to drive, you hate cars, and the school bully is willing the kidnap you in order to get good parking spots.
So Charlie decides she's going to ditch her fairy. This isn't an easy task. And it's made even harder when you go to a super-strict school, are trying to impress your new neighbour/crush, and still have to deal with the everyday ups and downs of being a teenager.
Charlie's adventure is fun, funny and sometimes kind of sweet.
A great read. Definately try to pick it up the next time you stop at the library!

I don't kill flies, but I like to mess with their minds. I hold them above a globe, and they freak out: "Whoa, I'm way too high up!"

I love this book!
In fact, I just love Justine Larbaleister in general! Did you know she's married to Scott Westerfeld?

What has Scott Westerfeld written?

Ooh, now I wanna read it!
Now if they could just write "How to Ditch Your Sister", my world would be perfect! She's followed me my whole life, and now onto kidpub.... this should be interesting!
Why is a raven like a writing desk?
Oh! I read that book! It is awesome, although sometimes the slang is confsing.

Yeah, well, it's Australian slang, I think. Since the author's Australian.
I dunno. I like the unfamiliar slang.
