On Sal's way to Idaho, where she's hoping to find her mother and bring her back, she tells her grandparents the story of her friend Phoebe Winterbottom, whose mother also vanished. These are the adventures of Sal and the story of Phoebe, all mixed into one. It's a fantastic, layered, moving novel.
