The Cottage - Chapter 4 - Mrs. Hofman
by Becca M.

Chapter 4 - Mrs. Hofman "Marisa, look at that. I think I see a village. Let's go." said Sarah. Marisa grabbed onto Sarah's hand and pulled her closer and closer to the village. There was still no sign of people but there they saw the rock. It had blown all the way to a huge castle. "Oh, no Marisa! We'll never get the rock and we'll never get out of here" said Sarah. Marisa patted Sarah on the back gently. "It's alright Sarah. We'll get out somehow." Then they heard birds chirping and one pulled on Marisa's jacket. "I think he's trying to tell us something. Let's follow him." said Marisa, "Hurry! ". The bird flew fast to one of the small houses. All of the houses looked exactly the same. They were all rainbow colors with wooden doors. Marisa and Sarah followed the bird and the bird knocked loudly on the door. At first no one answered and Sarah was ready to leave. Then an old lady answered the door. "Oh look who we have here," said the old lady, "Come on in. You guys look cold. Come in and have a cup of tea." "Oh hi. Uh, I'm Marisa and this is Sarah. We found ourselves in this village and we're looking for something and we can't find our way out." said Marisa. The girls walked in slowly. The house was quite pretty inside and snug. There was a leather couch with a wooden coffee table in front, then a wooden counter and a small kitchen. "You girls look tired and you look like you have a story to tell" said Mrs. Hofman. "Yeah, we do and we wish we could have a nap, but we should get going" said Sarah. "Oh now you must get some rest. Come and sit down." "I guess we could stay for a bit," said Marisa. "Oh, great!" said Mrs. Hofman. She went to the kitchen and took three tea leaves out of her cupboard and made hot tea. "Now tell me what you were trying to tell me dears" said Mrs. Hofman. Sarah smiled. "Well, we lost a rock. It's gone over to that huge castle. How will we ever be able to cross that bridge?" asked Sarah. "Oh my goodness. You lost a rock. What kind of rock?" asked Mrs. Hofman. "Well, it had a crown on it and we found it by our cottage. Well, we don't own it. We're just staying for a couple of days." "Oh really. You must be staying at my daughter, Miriam's cottage. She said she found rocks and they led her to me" said Mrs. Hofman. Mrs. Hofman sipped her tea slowly and smiled. "I know the adventure you guys are in, but I only know a little bit about it. I only know..."
