The Demented Chicken
by Trianna Keylan
There was once a farmer named Farmer Brown. Farmer Brown took special pride in his chickens. He fed them the most nutritional foods and purest water in order for them to taste good when cooked.
So on this particular day Farmer Brown was heading out to the stump. His stomach growled when he thought about what a delicious dinner he would have tonight.
After he killed the chicken, Farmer Brown went back inside to get the cleaning area ready. Soon he had everything laid out. All he needed was the chicken. The farmer walke outside again to retrieve the chicken and recieved a shock.
It wasn't there.
He looked everywhere for it, in the barn, the yard, the kitchen, the trees, near the stump....But it was gone.
Oh, something probably snatched it while I was inside, he thought.
How wrong the farmer was.
Later that night, Farmer Brown was laying in his bed, trying to sleep. Then he heard a scratching at his window.
He tried to ignore the noise, but it was like nails on a chalkboard; he couldn't stand it. Finally he switched on the light and looked around.
There were grooves in he window pane. Farmer Brown gulped and slowly got out of his bed, then tiptoed down the stairs to sleep in the couch in his living room. He sighed with relief. It was quieter down here, and the fireplace kept him warm. He began to doze, then fell asleep, instantly forgetting the window scratches.
Clatter. Clatter, clatter. Crash!
Farmer Brown jumped awake and his neck cracked as he swiveled his head around to see what the heck it was.
The fire in the chimney was out and it was smoldering. The banging sounds came from up the fireplace.
BANG!
Farmer Brown prepared to run out of the front door. He leaped out of his chair and tottered toward it.
Then it burst open!
There was a huge black thing in the doorway, and it stood out against the rain that was falling. Its eyes were a glowing yellow, and its beak was serrated. Looking closer, the farmer realized it was the chicken!!!!
It cawed loudly and began to fly in on its huge black wings. Farmer Brown screamed.
And here ends our account of Farmer Brown, for no more is known. He was never seen again, and there was no evidence of a demonic bird in the farmhouse.
