My Quiet Place

By Jared Saifman

My brother’s is the forest, my cousin’s is the caves, but my quiet place is the mountain tops. Slipping on my hiking boots and grasping my trekking pole, I walked out of my pine scented cabin and started up the mountain side.

After about 5 hours of climbing up a rugged unstable rocky hill, I finally reached the summit of the magnificent piece of landscape. When I reached it, I could smell the pollen of the flowers in the meadow. I saw dew on the grass under every tree as each tree was billowing in the breeze.

When I got thirsty, I rested my trekking pole against a tree and filled my canteen in the flowing river next to me. Tired from the journey, I retraced my path and headed down the mountain to fall asleep in my mahogany bed. The next day, I start the journey all over again.
