Red Skies: Prelude
by Trianna Keylan

The serpent closed his eyes and smiled in a geeky way as the other dragons congratulated him. The Guardians were there, along with the six dragons of the Elder Circle.

Jormungandr's plan was coming into effect. He flashed more fake smiles at the foolish Elders, making them think he was actually proud of himself for accomplishing this. He was Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent. But he was not very large(only about seven feet long, his body was about a foot wide in circumference) yet. He had a wondrous plan, one that had been in the process for four years. He had waited for that long time, pretending to be the teacher's pet, the smart one, the great little student who always listened. And now he was about to change all that.

Suddenly he jerked to the left, and began to slither as fast as he could towards the exit. A dragon named Rhorian shouted loudly, and Jormungandr slithered faster. Soon the four Guardians were tailing him, along with the Elders and other dragon authorities.

The Frost Guardian, Syren, was coming up quicker than the others. In a split second, Jormungandr whipped around and bit him. The Earth Guardian roared with rage and leaped forward. Jormungandr slid back, dragging Syren with him. The Guardian roared again and lunged toward him. Jormungandr opened his mouth and let go of Syren; then began to slither some more.

There was a small window up ahead, only about two feet wide. The serpent didn't hesitate and flew right through it, peppering the Guardians with glass shards.

A minute later he was gone, having disappeared into the night.
