Scaredy-Cat Alice
by Alice

“Do you want to come see ‘Friday the Thirteenth’ with me?” Sam asked on the way to school. “Uh, sure…” I trailed off. “Great! See you there!” He interrupted. When I got home, I watched the preview of Friday the Thirteenth. When the words popped up on the screen, I jumped out of my seat. Sitting on the floor, I witnessed the pretty woman being murdered on the television. I felt a huge shiver slither down my spine. I reached for the remote and pressed STOP. Finally, the bloody mess on the screen disappeared. I felt my jaw drop, and my hand tremble. “Alice, are you okay?” My dad ran up to me and waved his hand in front of my terrified expression. I nodded; he patted my head, and walked away. The next day at school, Sam trotted over to me. “Are you okay?” He asked starring at my face. “Yeah, why?” I said through my teeth. “You look… horrible.” He admitted. “Thanks,” I murmured. “Hey Sam?” I forced myself to look towards his glare, but almost immediately looked back at the ground. I fiddled with the zipper on my jacket. I wanted to tell him that I didn’t want to go, but he was my best friend, and I didn’t want him to get mad at me. I guess I could suffer a day in agonizing torture. “Spit it out,” Sam laughed. “Can’t wait ‘till tonight!” I said trying to sound enthusiastic. I remembered the beautiful woman getting stabbed. Through out the day, I thought about how scared I would be tonight. Finally, it was time. Sam was looking for me by the candy counter. “Bye mom,” I looked at her, and she nodded. “Love you. Have fun.” she said. She slowly walked away. I skipped to Sam. I hadn’t noticed before, but I was shaking pretty bad. “Jeez, Alice,” He shook his head. “You look like you are going to die,” He said. “Well, what are you waiting for? Let’s go!” I yanked his arm and settled for a front row seat. Familiar words jumped on to the screen. This time I didn’t jump. The first scene to on the giant screen was a girl and, of course, she was being killed. As guts were flying everywhere, I held back my vomit. I turned to look at Sam. His face was bright green. “Sam, are you okay?” I asked, starring at his sickening face. “I’m going to go to the bathroom,” He murmured. He got up, and trailed off to the boy’s room. It had been ten minutes and he didn’t come back. I sighed, and got up. I dialed my mother’s number and let it ring three times. “Mom,” I muttered. “I’ll be there.” She said. I didn’t hear the engine start. “Mom! You waited for me?” I screamed. Then I saw the other people stare at me. “I knew you would chicken out,” She admitted. “I did not! Sam did!” I yelled matter- of -factly. I coulcn’t believe that Scaredy cat Alice was now Scardy cat Sam. I hoped he wouldn’t be embarrassed tomorrow.
