It was a peaceful place in Mageland, until whoosh! Merlin thought he heard something, but then he just got back to eating his delicious escargot. Then the alarm went off. Someone stole the Fire Gem in the diorama. First of all, Mageland has an egalitarian government with 5 top mages and has a pacifistic bureaucracy. Mageland was on top of a high plateau. Right now Merlin was a student in the High Academy of Wizardry. Merlin rushed to the diorama room. As soon as Merlin got there he found himself being attacked by the dragon rider. A barrage of fireballs was blasted at Merlin. Merlin put a force field around himself but when the smokescreen disappeared the dragon rider did too. "We can't let them get the Water or Light Gem or we'll have no defenses!" said the country's diplomat in a rather angry mood. "I think we have to give up our peace-loving nation and go to war." said the Light Wizard. "Then, it's WAR!", the council agreed. Merlin wasn't going to get permission from the Wizard Council. He knew who that dragon rider was and where he was going. The rider's name was Zanthose and he had a mystique about him. Merlin knew he was close, but he was also getting close to the riders' territory. There he was! Merlin launched a lightning bolt and knocked him off of his dragon. Zanthose reciprocated with an amazing fire spin and Merlin got knocked off too. It was a battle on land. Merlin had the first move and shot an astounding beam at him. He countered it with a beam of his own. The blast blew them in separate directions. Merlin was OK, but Zanthose ended up in water! Fire is defenseless in water. Merlin went to the council with Zanthose, who was their top rider except for their leader, in an anti-fire cage. When the riders found out about this, they sent a surrender note with a white flag cachet on it. The riders will never bother the wizard again!
