"What?! So that means they're targeting us. Great. As if Kailani and I don't have enough problems already..." Anil said. Great. Now he wouldn't be able to sleep at night. At the foster home, it was anything but safe.
"What happens if they don't kill another nature child?" Kailani asked, looking unsettled.
"Then they either lose their powers, or die. Or..." Esmeralda hesitated. "Never mind."
Anil never was perturbed by what was said, only what wasn't said. Pay attention to what isn't there, something that made him and Kailani more perceptive than others. He asked, "What else could happen? I know that you know the answer..."

Eileen raised an eyebrow. "You guys really believe this crap? How do weknow that you're honest?" Eileen asked.

Esmeralda stared back at her, completely unphased. "Because--"

"Guys," Kailani gasped. "There's someone outside."

*Sorry, can't think of anything....*

Esmeralda didn't react. "You could call it that."

"We have to get out of here," Kinzley said. "People are following us everywhere, and if they've really come to kill all of us, we need to get somewhere safe. Not Granny's house, or any orphanage. Any ideas?"

They were all silent, thinking. Something popped in Eileen's mind. "The mountains. We can hide and perfect our powers in the mountains. When we've mastered our powers, then we have to come back and get rid of them."

Everyone, even herself, was surprised at what she said. She was suggesting to throw away their lives, right now? Eileen didn't like the idea, but she knew they had to do it.

"Maybe..." Anil was hesitant. They didn't have a life here, but they wouldn't have a life there either. And that would mean living closely with these other Nature Children, who he and his sister didn't really know they could trust. He was surprised when Kailani spoke up.

"I, for one, think we should do it, at least for a little while," Kailani said.
