Okay, I've been wanting to hold a contest for a long time and now I think i'll start one. So I need you to write a myth. It can include any types of gods/god, or it doesn't have to, it just needs to explain something that happens now. Like:

Why do we all wear shoes?

Why do trees need sunlight to grow?

Why don't two snowflakes look the same?

Include "For Shelby" in the title, and I'll check it out. Contest ends on August sixteenth, in thre weeks.

 Here's my example:

The Reason All Dogs' Noses are Wet

Roody was an ordinary dog, who's owner happened to be the captain of a pirate ship in the fourteen hundreds. He was a labrador retriever with yellow fur and beady black eyes. He was as gentle as a mouse, and never barked. He was treated like another one of the crew on the ship, everyone handed him scraps from he dinner, and the captain loved him deeply.

One night, a storm hit the ship, and the crew was panicked. Everyone was shouting orders and running around, not able to stop and think about what the problem was and how to solve it. But not Roody.

Roody was a dog that had lived on pirate ships since the day he was born. He'd been through many storms such as this and knew that the best thing he could do was lie down in a corner and not get in the way of his master or any of the others. But tonight was different. He was lying in his usual corner, when his ears picked up a sound, coming from the deck below him. None of the others heard it, since they weren't dogs, but he sure heard it. He shot up and ran down the stairs to see what the sound was coming from.

He scanned the room and used his ears more than his eyes. Suddenly, he spotted a hole, about the size of a golf ball, in the side of the boat. Water was pouring into the deck, and everyone else was upstairs. He panicked, knowing that the ship could sink. He barked twice, trying to get someone's attention. No one came.

Without a second thought, Roody ran to the hole, splashing through the water that was already on the deck. He plugged his nose into the hole, stopping the flow of the water. He stayed like that until the storm passed and the crew calmed down. The second someone realized that Roody was missing, they went looking for him. They found him still sitting at the hole, his nose wedged through it, keeping the ship from sinking.

And that's why dogs' noses are wet to this very day.
