“Did you see, Million dollars’ concert last night?” Tammy asked me. She was pretending to act nice, but I knew her better, it was just another tactic to prove she was better than me, “No, I didn’t have tickets,” I replied, this made Tammy hoot with laughter. “ No… I mean…you didn’t see it on…sky.” she gasped in between laughter. She was bent double, tears streaming from her eyes she obviously found this HILARIOUS. “I don’t have a television,” I announced to the air when Tammy’s face usually is.

Tammy stood straight a HUGE smirk across her face, “ what a geek! You mean you’ve never heard of the Concert channel?”

“You mean you’ve never heard of the environment?” I retorted getting angry. “The environment?” Tammy said, “what’s that got to do with it, you freak!” At that moment Zoë, Tammy’s sad side-kick, walked over to us, “ Hey Tam, what you doing talking to that loser?” Zoë asked, “Don’t worry Zo, I wasn’t talking I was teasing,” Tammy answered, “smooth,” Zoë grinned. Tammy took Zoë’s arm and they tottered down the corridor in their high heels laughing their heads off.

“Hey Sall,” My best friend Eve waved and indicated to the seat she was saving for me, “Hey Eve,” I said striding over. I slumped down in my chair angrily and slammed my plate on the table. “ Easy Sall, you’ll break a plate,” Eve exclaimed. “Neemmmhnd,” I mumbled nibbling at my chicken nuggets,”translate,” Eve asked

“Tammy”

“Oh………right”

“Tammy and her stupid mate Zoë. All they ever think about is make up and boys and television. Don’t they ever worry about animals or global warming or pollution they’re so shallow. I mean Ok I have to admit guys are alright, but they spend all their time drooling all over them. Trying to get popular so someone will go out with them, which will make them even more popular apparently. And when they’re not drooling over the real living boys, then it’s a boy band. Which they spend all their time listening to their music and wearing their sort of clothe, and joining their fan clubs and reading articles on them in their magazines and watching all their concerts on ‘the concert channel’ Don’t they ever think of anything else!” I was shouting by the end, the whole cafeteria was staring at me silently. I could feel my skin blush, I coughed trying to break the silence but everyone’s eyes stayed transfixed on me. I pulled my chair into the table and began eating again. Everyone started to talk to one another and the cafeteria returned to normal.

Eve didn’t say anything for a while; she just chewed her food quietly. Once all the people had stopped staring she leaned over to me and whispered in my ear, “ Don’t worry, Sall, we’ll get them.”

To be continued…
