Before Alex knew it,Melissa had gently moved Daniel out of the way and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt.Melissa was pantng so hard,Alex thought she was a rabbit faced with a fox."LIAR!"Melissa shierked,"I knew I couldnt trust you in the 4th grade.You tried to snag Daniel for yourself.You thief!"God,Alex thought,she`s making it sound like I stole the Olympic torch or something.
Melissa had raised her hand high to smack Alex.Alex closed her eyes.She felt wind against her face,but never felt anything sting her face.Daniel had his hand on Melissa`s rist and Melissa was staring at the ground.Her hand let loose of Alex`s collar.Melissa fell to the ground,limp.Behind her,Daniel stood with his left hand by where her neck was.He hit her,Alex thought,he hit her where her heart beat went up to her brain.Alex sat there,stunned at what just happened.She looked up and saw Daniel standing over her,his hand out-streched.Alex brought her hand up yo her chest as if defending herself.However,she came to her sinces that Melissa was the bad guy,not Daniel.
After he had helped her up,Daniel asked,"You ok?"Alex nodded and asked,"You know she`ll be out cold for a couple of hour`s."She looked out the window and said,"They could be coming back in about 2 hours.The nearest hospital is an hour away and they left 5 minutes ago."When Alex looked up,Daniel had picked up Melissa and was carrying her out the door.When they turned around the corner,Alex sat down and looked at the cafiteria floor and said aloud,"Talk about a seventh grade surprise.Am I really falling for my best friend?"She contiued to stare at the ground when a shadow taller than Daniel swooped over her.She looked up to see Brian.She gave a little yelp.
"It`s ok,Alex,babe,"he said.She hated when he did that.He had a crush on her and alway`s called her Alex babe."Brian,please stop calling me that annoying name.Wait,how did you get in here anyway?"she asked.Brian grinned and put his face closer to her`s.So close,Alex could feel his breathe against her throat.She was so startled,she had to lean against the Cafiteria table to stand."I`ve been here longer than you.I was here right the teacher was hurt,"Brian said,grinning harder.Alex just stared at him blankly.She didnt know what to say.He kept leaning forward.
"Hey,Brian,back off.Stop messing with her,"came Daniel`s voice.Brian blooked up to see Daniel.Sure,he and Daniel were friends and all,but Daniel did help Alex out whenever Brian sarted to mess with her.Thank God for Daniel,she thought.But Brian turned and looked at her again.And he didnt look back.
