FOUR DAYS LATER

It was Thursday, the day before the dance. Literally, everyone is freaking out about it. But freaking out in a good way. Except for me.

Why? Because I hadn't asked Johnny yet. And I so could not settle for another guy. But there IS some good news. Our new house is getting built, with skylights above the indoor pool, and my very own huge room. Did I forget to tell you I have siblings? Oh, yes my wonderful brother, Chuck, and sister, Daylene. And right now I share my room with Daylene, who is sixteen and a slob. Chuck has a closet-type room, but my Mom doesn't admit that it's a closet. He sleeps on a tiny army cot, with baseball poster all around him.

Okay, now for one more piece of bad news. Our teachers announced our grades today, because our report cards are coming out soon. I'm getting A's in every class, except for algebra and cooking. In those classes, I'm flunking. Yes, flunking. My mom found out somehow and is making me get tutoring for math, and cook dinner every night for cooking class. Bummer, right? But SHE is getting lot out of this. No cooking until the end of the marking period for her.

So the dance isn't really the biggest of my problems. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I get tutored by Natalie, this total nerd who sits in front of me in math. She's even on the school's Mathletics team. Loser, right?

I had to stop thinking so much. Grr. The doorbell rang. "I'll get it!" I shouted. Not that there was any need to, Mom was sitting right there. I wasn't surprised to see Aim and Fi standing there, smiling.

"Hey! What's up, girly?" Fi said.

"Not much.. thinking about the dance and everything."

"Oh yeah, same here. We are sooo psyched! Anyway, do you wanna come grab a shake with us? I mean, we totally haven't been seeing you lately." Aim reported.

I thought about it. I decided I'd rather sit around for a while, instead of always going somewhere.

"Nah, I'll catch up with you in school tomorrow, ok? I've got work to do."

They looked at me strangely.

"But we haven't seen you, like, at ALL lately! Come on, Al, hang with us!" Aim pleaded.

I shook my head, and waved goodbye.

Anyway, my last few days in the trailor park have been good ones. I promised Johnny that I will come back a lot after I move. He's important to me like that. So important that I would actually come back to the trailor park for him.
