Dear Diary,
A letter came from Father today. The censors picked out sentences and blacked them out. So as not to tell anyone were they were. I was happy with what was still left on the page. A letter full of discriptions, some that were hard to bear, others tolerative. But I sat and listend to mother just the same. The county picnic was yesterday and Samantha and I sat on a wool blanket with Jonny and Micheal. Samantha has a love dear to her heart diary, she fancys Jonny. I can't believe it myself yet he sat there staring at her same as she was staring at him. In my opinion I think that Micheal fancys me, though he stays a couple with Amelia Burton, the richest girl in town. He's poor, Diary, so I suppose his father sold him off. He could marry Amelia and become rich but I know, Diary, that he's not happy. Anyway, Diary, I must reply to father's letter. He would love to hear from me soon.
Sincerely,
Emily Malia Bishop
Dear Diary,
I saw Amelia during classes today just as Samantha and I were leaving for lunch. She told me that if I wanted my mom to keep her job in the Patch Work House than I better leave Michael alone. Shots for me! Why does Amelia's father own the Patch Work House? And why does she fancy Michael so? He's nothing but a farmer's boy though I shouldn't say anything more becuause considering me I'm nothing more either. I think that I may fancy Michael though it's not my fault! I will find some way to get him to drop Amelia though. I promise you, Diary.
Sincerely,
Emily Malia Bishop
