SUNFLARE THE DRAGON

By Timothy

Some people have adventures, right? Well, right now, I’m going to tell you about my adventure. I left my home to take a walk in the forest. Then, don’t call me clumsy, but I tripped on something. It was a small gem, orange in color, and shone brightly in the sunlight. I put the gem in my pocket, and walked even further. Next, I ended up at the base of a volcano, looking at a huge, egg-shaped rock. Then I noticed an orange spot on the rock, and took out the gem. All of a sudden, there was a cracking sound. Then the rock split open and out came…a dragon! Now, the dragon was about eight feet tall, wore a steel plate on his head, a curved spike on his nose, had fiery wings, had a gem stuck in his chest, two bizarre horns on the back of his head, and three claws on the tip of his tail.

“Thanks for freeing me.” he said, only his mouth wasn’t moving. He used psychic powers to talk!

“What’s with the gem stuck in your chest?” I asked.

“That gem allows me to have my power. Without it, I’m powerless.” he replied.

“I am Sunflare, king of dragons. I need your help. An evil wizard has threatened to turn all dragons to crystal, but first he must take the sun crystal.”

He explained that he must get to the sun crystal before the wizard. I climbed onto Sunflare’s back and we flew off.

The flight was incredible! We flew across a vast desert, a sparkling lake, a dense jungle, and finally landed in a huge underground cavern. A big, fire-shaped crystal floated in the middle of the cavern. The sun crystal! The gem in Sunflare’s chest glowed brightly. Then the sun crystal disappeared. Then Sunflare turned to me.

“The sun crystal has given me maximum power.” he explained. “Now all we have to do is defeat the wizard. Let’s catch him with his trousers down!”

Then, we flew away. This time, we landed in a tall tower. The wizard was a really skinny man with a big white beard. He looked mean. He just found out we had beaten him to the sun crystal.

“Still, I will prevail!” he shouted in rage.

He held up his wand and blew. A deadly dart appeared and headed straight for us! But Sunflare drew his hand forward and crushed the dart as if it were a twig! Then, he opened his mouth, and an enormous fireball shot out. When the wizard recovered, he pointed his wand at us, and a giant bat appeared. But, Sunflare caught the bat, and used his horns to fling it right back! The, Sunflare pulled his tail claws apart, and a ball of energy formed. Next, he drew his tail forward, then released. The ball hit the wizard in the face! Then, Sunflare shot another one at the ground. Next, the ground split open.

Believe me, the wizard was surprised! Sunflare shot a fireball, and the wizard, his power down the drain, withered up until he was nothing. Then, Sunflare stomped on the wizard’s wand.

When we got back to the volcano, Sunflare rewarded me.

“You will get three wishes.”

My first wish was to buzz China. It surprised China, all right!

I whispered my second wish in Sunflare’s ear, and we were off. There were these guys who loved to press my face in mud. My next wish was to show them who’s boss!

“There they are!” I yelled.

“Roaaaaaaaar!” said Sunflare.

We swooped down. Man, they scrambled like maniacs! Finally, they went right into some garbage cans, and were nearly carried away by a garbage truck!

My third wish was to go see the Statue of Liberty. My what a sight! Then, Sunflare took me home.

“Now I must return to my kingdom, a very beautiful place.” he said. “By the way, you can keep this.”

He held out the gem that I had used to free him. I took it and bid farewell. And when my Mom asked me where I had been, I said casually, “Oh, for a walk.”

THE END
