Prologue

in the big huge world

July 30th, 2005

The sky was red, an omen of bad days to come. For hours, a battle had been raging. It was against four nations, four elements, and four swords. These were no ordinary swords, mind you, but they each held in their hilt a stone and a ring surrounding it. There was one sword, one stone, and one ring for each element: Fire, Water, Earth, and Sky. But greedy souls now yearned for not one, but all the Element Swords, for the bearer of them had the choice to make a shield over the world: Good or evil based upon their heart. Right now, it seemed as if all the leaders of the Nations were evil.

Everyone who could fought, by the cruel commands of the armies. This did not exclude women, or children. If you were able to hold a sword and swing it round, you were to fight. So on the day before the battle, the armies had marched into the center of the world. The Center was made out of no element, but perhaps a dry, rocky earth and stale wind and air. It was a horrible place, meant for horrible battles and horrible arguments. When all had reached the Center, the war had begun.

Just as soon as the battle had begun, the leaders dropped the Element Swords, and plunged into the bloody battle. But there was one girl, nearly 14, who saw this. She was small, and agile, for being from the Earth Place, with all the rocks and trees, she had learned to climb and duck and crawl on her belly like a snake. She dodged angry warriors blows and nodded at the terrified looks of the other children and the women. She looked sadly at the old men who had not even unsheathed their sword, lying dead on the ground.

The young girl saw an Element sword. She picked it up. The stone and the ring were still embedded in the hilt. Good. She threw it into the earth, where it could travel to another planet, to be safe. Then she spotted two more. She ran to them, and did the same.

The last sword was of Fire. She grabbed it, just as someone else did. Another child; a young boy. "Give it to me," he said roughly. The girl looked at him with her green eyes burning. "Never. It must go to a safer place," she said just as roughly. They fought over it more. "Look, we can't be part of this nonsense. Let's just get over it," The boy said. The girl nodded and they plunged it deep into the earth. She ran, the boy tearing after her. Suddenly he fell, and arrow in his side. With open eyes, the girl realised the boy was her sister. He had helped her dispose of the sword safely.

But he would never live to tell of it.

So, this is the revised version. D'you like it??? PLease give feedback quickly
