Serina yawned. She looked at the sky, sun barely peeking over the horizon. She climbed down from her perch, in some kid's fancy swing set. Sometime in the night, the rain had turned to light, fluffy, snow, undisturbed by people or their pets. Serina smiled, looking at the small tracks in the snow. The imprints were not that of boots, but bare feet. She shivered slightly, and got on the sidewalk.

Although it was still only about five or six in the morning, people could be waking up and going to work. Serina ran some more, onto a beautiful avenue: Cherry Avenue. She spat on the ground, and turned back. After scanning the neighborhood, Serina found a run down playhouse on Heartland Road. She opened the door, and saw another girl curled up on the playhouse's cold floor.

The girl had curly, honey blond hair. Her skin was pale and freckles dotted her slightly turned up nose. She shivered, and cold air wisped from her mouth. Serina studied the girl for a minute, then crouched on the ground. "Get up," She told the girl roughly. She didn't move very much, just rolled over and shivered again. Frustrated, Serina kicked her gently. "I said get up. NOW!" She yelled. No stranger would dare sleep in her 'home' uninvited!

Slowly, the girl sat up. "What are you doing here?" They both said at the same time. Honey Blond looked at Serina with grey, defiant eyes. Serina's own amber eyes stared her visitor down. The girl looked away first. "I'm Snow," she said. Serina nodded awkwardly. "OK, you told me your name. Nice to meet you. Now get out of my house. Don't you live in one of those fancy rich houses?" Serina said. I'm not used to this kind of thing, she thought.

Snow smiled sadly. "I'm sorry, I don't. Well, I did. A very long time ago. I live on the streets now. I suppose you live in that house over there?" she said, pointing to the house on a big, snow covered hill. Serina rolled her eyes. "No, I live in this house. And if you are a homeless brat like me, why haven't I met you before?" she said, first sarcastically, then warily. I don't like this Snow girl, she thought. She's too suspicious. Not skinny enough to be one.

Serina felt Snow tap her shoulder. "Because, I don't live in Green Valley. There's a city not too far away, where I live with three others. The leader, who claims his name is Bite, gives Rusty and me missions for food. Kellogs is too little to hunt," Snow said. Serina bit her lip. "Where do you get all these names?" she asked Snow. The girl smiled again. "Well, Bite gives us our names. Rusty's real name is Justin, and Kellogs' real name is Ashley. My real name was Alennia, but Bite said Snow fit me better," she said.

"When you say hunt it reminds me of dogs, or wolves," Serina said. Snow laughed. She's cheerful,Serina thought.
"Well, Bite has a book about wolves. He's had it since he ran away from the orphanage. He likes being a leader and I think he likes the idea of being a 'pack'. There have been I don't know how many other kids coming to see Bite, and he's told them to go away. More food to find," she said. "But maybe he'll let you join our 'pack'. I mean, you've lived like this for-" Snow cut off, not knowing how long Serina had lived there.
"Forever," Serina said.

*Okay, this is ch. 1. Still need titles, and I'm thinking of changing it to 1st person. Do you think it would be better?*

I like the perspective on the story--most people don't think about writing about someone homeless. awesome!
