Vakahd: The Walled Land

This is an explanation of the Vakahd Desert, the setting of the Battle of Reddath Gate and the
upcoming Flame of Vakahd.
The great Desert strecthes a bit past the diameter of the Earth realm America in miles. It is
beautiful, merciless, and full of life. It was covered with many oasises and had some grasslands.
But this wonderful place was reduced to nothing but shifting sand by the industrial accomplishments
of Man and his machinations. Surrounding most of the grasslands was a ring of small mountains. It
was most unusual because only these were sourrounded by mountains, not the oasises. Man built towns
in the grass valleys, as they called them, and jungle oasises that lay near rivers. One of the more
famous and mighty of these was Bakture, fortress of King Atherdon father of Athatok father to
Atherean father of Atherad. Atherdon built walls and gaurdhouses atop the mountains surrounding his
valley, further enhancing the natural barrier. Bakture throve within the walls for centuries but,
during Atherad's reign, was then conquered by an army of corsairs led by Girath the Bandit Lord.
Another architectural marvel was Tyros Ain Wall that dwarfed Bakture tenfold.
Caraks were immortal, vulture-like birds that dwelled in skies above the desert and long before any
but small, burrowing mammals set foot in Vakahd. Then came the great Amah-Duri, the "Earth-Shakers".
Like the elephants of today were they shaped, but the sizes of the two are incomparable. There were
not calle the Earth-Shakers for nothing. They spoke a secret language that had no consistency, no
common word bases or roots. All words were absolutely different in pronunci
