A Cat's Tale- Chapter 5

Arissa puffed and panted. She was in Denzel. The first thing she saw was the sign for "Joker's Jail". Denzel was a pretty depressing place. Arissa walked into the jail's entrance. What she saw first were dead rats on the floor. Then she realized that this place was deserted. She decided to look through it anyway. In every cell there was a metal bed, a little toilet, and two bowls. In the last cell, though, there was a trapdoor open in the floor. If the trapdoor was closed you would never know it was there. But it was open. Arissa scuttled through the rusty bars and took a deep breath. She jumped down the opening.

Liza was gone, and a zombie had taken over her life. Her days at school were long, and every day when she got home, she knew Arissa would be there. Only she never was. Mary did the day's work and avoided talking to anyone. The only thing she did was make a poster that said:

Lost cat. Answers to Arissa. Cream with a
black star on chest.
About 7 pounds and 6 months. If found, a
reward- an 18 carat gold watch, worth $263.

Mary had found the watch on her parents' dresser the week after they left. She'd promised to keep it forever, but this was different.

After a long fall down the trap door, Arissa landed on a trampoline. When she hopped off the tramp, she saw 3 doorways. She picked the left one to go down first. It was dirty and dark. Oops, she thought, dead end. She still had a feeling it was the right one! There happened to be a bookcase near the end. She pulled all the books out, like they do on TV. Finally, the last book she pulled opened a sliding elevator. When she got in, the elevator said " Destination, please?" Arissa was so taken aback that she said....
