It was getting dark. Manthadon sighed. "Ey'd bellar gi bok tu miy kotige," he said to the Jarkol. (I'd better get back to my cottage).
{Attell bay riftee kloyns}. (That'll be fifty coins). Manthadon paid for his supper and walked slowly out the door.
Once outside, he noticed something odd about the clouds. In the black night sky, red clouds hovered above the town. He shrugged and walked on. Then he stopped. Thunder? No. Buzzing. He looked up again. The clouds were coming down! They were above him. Red clouds and buzzing. Puzzlement ran through the minds of everyone in the town.
They were splitting up! They were made of particles or something. Then Manthadon realized what they were. He had only nightmares of them. They only lived in horror tales. But now they were REAL!
The Quirrox were coming!
"Everyone get into your cottages and HIDE!" said Manthadon. He ran to his own. Red bugs. Swirling, shrieking, poisonous, evil bugs, all swirling like a tornado. Then Manthadon noticed a boy lying on the ground. A bug landed on the boy's chest. Manthadon charged. He drew his blade. It sliced the bug in half, and not even harming the boy. Manthadon slung the senseless boy over his shoulder and took off for his cottage. He slammed the door behind him. A thousand red stingers poked through the door. Manthadon looked around. There was no place to run or to hide. Those red stingers, dripping with deadly poison, kept slicing through the old woodwork of his cottage door. He ran into the basement. He hid in the cellar with the boy. He heard a crash as the door upstairs fell over.
