Everybody knows what it is like to lose a freind or family member. Well, this is a story
about losing someone. When my father was young he bought a miniature sheltie. This sheltie
was a sick runt, but my dad didn't care if he wasn't healthy. He named the dog Charlie
Bear Elam. My father has good memories of Charlie Bear. When he was a puppy he would sleep
in dad's shoe. I wasn't there when dad bought Charlie, in fact I wasn't even born yet.
When daddy grew up and married my mom, he gave Charlie to his parents, my grandparents.
When I was born Charlie was full grown. He was the best dog anyone could have. He played
with me, chased me around, and let me pet him as much as I wanted. I remember though, some
times he would nip me for pulling his tail. I remember almost every christmas, Charlie
would be there ripping open his present by himself, and sometimes helping me. I am now 9
years old, and a few months ago the saddest thing happened Charlie had to be put to sleep
because there was something wrong inside of him. He was suffering so I knew it was the
best thing to do. My grandparents were so upset, being that he had lived with them for
his whole life. My grandparents live two hours away, I never got to say good-bye to
Charlie Bear. I know he wassn't my dog but I felt like he was, because I did grow up with
him. But, I know Charlie is happy in heaven.
