"We should have known better then to run straight into Argon's army, we were way outnumbered!" Jaslyn yelled.
Jaslyn was a 24 year old woman. She had dark brown hair and white skin. She loved to use her sword in battle. It was her weapon.
"I know Jaslyn you don't need to bug me about it all the time!" Porgan exclaimed.
Porgan was the main commander and strategist with Manika. They were all good friends. He usually barked commands to the warriors in battle. Manika was sort of the silent one. He boasted a large sword wreathed with jewels.
"Will you stop arguing for once in your life we already know that what Porgan did was poor judgment So will you two stop arguing?" Manika asked loudly.
Manika was the best warrior in the Shugan Empire. He is the main commander [with Porgan] and nicest one too. He usually stopped the arguments.
"It's not my fault half of my force got wiped out!" Jaslyn complained.
"I'm sorry Jaslyn I know half your force got killed. But at least we killed more of them," Porgan stated.
"I-I can't believe you would say that. They were half of my force you dork!" Jaslyn yelled angrily, gritting her teeth at her "opponent".
"Both of you drop it or I'll report you to the king. So shut up and quiet down!" Manika yelled threateningly.
The dirt road sprang up in dust behind them covering the way they had come. They rounded a bend in the mountains and saw the city. It was the Shugan capital, Klishgan. It had walls made of iron, gates of steel, and palaces of crystal. They were a wealthy nation. But this war had made them weak. They didn't have much military power compared to the nations surrounding them. Now was a time of a great war between them and bordering nations. They were the weakest in military power and greatest in economy.
The Shus of the north were their primary enemy. About once every day they they either raided a village or lay siege to a fortress. They had 10,000 men in the war so far over half their army.
Gens of the south were always wandering the countryside. Once every month they assembled a large, full scale attack on a fortress or destroyed two villages. They attacked anybody they wanted to either the Shugans or the Aragorth of the east. They didn't have to deal with the Shus, yet.
On the west bordered the Rugans They were a very wealthy nation in both economy and military. They usually raided the Shus who were their main threat.
Small bands of rebels wandered the countryside having no allies. They raided trade routes and sometimes small villages constantly. Hoping for the people to give up and pay tribute.
Jaslyn, Porgan, and Manika were the Shugan's best commanders. They each had 5,000 men. 2,000 archers, 1,500 cavalry, and 1,500 infantry. Today they would meet the king. To discuss their next moves.
They had reached the gates, the watchman saw them and opened up the gates for them. They went inside and headed toward the Great Palace where the king lived.
They stepped into his room and bowed. "Great king we have come from our raid," Manika said.
"I can see that, now how did it go?" the king asked.
"It was okay," Porgan answered.
"What do you mean?" questioned the king.
"We lost at least half our army," Porgan answered sullenly.
"Porgan, you know that isn't good, we need a victory," the king stated.
"I know o' king," Porgan replied.
"So what are we going to do? We don't have enough power to overcome one of the Shu's fortresses. We must think fast," the king said.
"We don't have a chance to win this war we should just give up," Jaslyn said sadly.
"Jaslyn, we won't give up like that! So get it out of your head!" Manika exasperated.
"Manika don't do that to Jaslyn she has a point," the king said sternly.
"King do you know what will happen if we give up? You and everybody else in this kingdom will be slain. We must move forward with this war. Or else the great Shugan Empire will only be a legend!" Manika retorted.
"Porgan, you have been quiet what do you think we should do?" the king asked Porgan.
Porgan stood up and said solemnly, "So the decision is left to me. I know this war has been great but if we give up they will completely destroy us. I vote that we stay alive. For the worst is yet to come but we must face it head on. Let us continue this war!" he got louder as he spoke.
Five days later the whole army embarked on a final battle for peace and the Shugan Empire.
The Shu capital, Pornalg the crystal city glittered in the distance. It's half of its army was there. You could see them readying for war. They were fortifying the gates. And armoring their towers better. Weapons were being sharpened. The villagers trained. But not enough to defeat the storm ready to overcome them.
They had 10,000 men total. Pornalg, the Shu capital had 15,000 men. All were lined up on the battlements with bow and arrows,
"Porgan, we must attack with siege weapons and open a hole in the wall and then rush through, you, Jaslyn, and I will look for the king if he is captured or killed we win," Manika told him.
"You are right Manika, siege weapons prepare to fire!" Porgan yelled," I will be pleased to fight next to you in battle," he told Manika.
"Right friend, let us fight to our last breath," Manika said.
"Fire!" Porgan yelled.
The siege weapons fired all at once. The rocks hit the wall moving the whole fortress. Some crashed through killing some men.
"Aaaah,"men screamed as the fell of the wall rapidly moving towards the ground.
"Charge!" Porgan yelled.
They charged across the plain. Trumpets sounded. The two tides met in combat fighting fiercely. Porgan, Manika and Jaslyn were fighting side by side. Their swords were like cleavers severing anything that came within reach. Slowly, they made it to the wall. Arrows rained down on them killing some. Men were running inside only to bet met by an arrow and fly backwards as their feet sipped under them. Porgan was the first to successfully make it into the city. People crowded the streets pitch forks in hand.
"Charge!" their king yelled.
They charged, pitchforks first. They were no match for the trained warriors. Soon the villagers lay on the street. Slowly the army moved into the palaces looking for the king.
Porgan, Manika, and Jaslyn were searching a palace. They rounded a corridor and saw the king.
"You have found me," he said.
Archers were at his side loaded.
"Don't move or I'll have to kill you," the king threatened.
They stood still. Then suddenly they exploded into action, slashing anything they could. They collided with the king's guards. Two archers fired an arrow at Manika.
"No!" Porgan yelled jumping in front of the arrows. They hit him in the chest, he fell down.
Another fired at Manika, Jaslyn jumped in front of it. It hit her squarely in the heart. Manika rushed the guards killing them.
The king took his bow and fired.
"No!" yelled Porgan, he jumped in front of the arrow again to save his friend. It hit him in the heart. Slowly he crumbled to the ground.
Manika charged and slashed. The king fell down. Manika had cut clean through his neck. He rushed over to his fallen companions. They were dead. He got up and started to cry. Then he grabbed the king's body and went outside.
"The king is dead!" he yelled truimphantly.
No one answered. Everyone was dead. They had killed each other off.
He fell to his knees and wept openly. Bodies littered the streets. Horses, children, women, and men were there, dead. Then he got up and walked toward Kishgan.
6 months later...
He had finally arrived. But a sad sight met his eyes. The city was gone. Only rubble could be found. He went in the city and kneeled.
"My king I have failed you." He took out his sword and stuck it in his stomach. He fell forward never to see the earth again. The Shugan Empire was over.
