Prologue: The Darkest Hour

Cody looked at the huge mansion where their latest case would be. It looked like one of those mansions from horror movies.
As he walked to the door the boards beneath him squeaked. He seemed to here howls and shrieking from another dimension.

He rang the doorbell, waiting for the butler to open the door. Surprisingly, the owner to the mansion opened the door.

“Well you must be the Ghost Hunters correct?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Please come in.”

The inside of the manse was modest in compare with other mansions. It had a dusty spiraling staircase, and a small chandelier hanging from the ancient ceiling.

“So what has this ghost been doing exactly?” Cody asked.

“Well it’s been trying to kill us. Yesterday a large candle tipped over and almost started a fire, luckily I was there to stamp it out before it started a real fire. During the night it’s been rampaging in the attic, we’re not quite sure what it’s been doing though, and haven’t checked it out.”

“Well that’s where we’ll begin.”

Cody and Josh climbed the spiraling staircase to it’s limit. It ended at a trapdoor, which obviously led to the attic. Cody cautiously opened the trapdoor, suddenly a black thing flew out, ramming into Josh and escaping through holes in the ceiling.

“Don’t worry, it’s just a bat.”

They climbed into the attic. It looked as if it hadn’t been used in years. Using torches they looked at their surroundings. Dust has settled over all the furniture and boxes. On the side were two huge bookshelves, their ancient books covered in dust. And in the center of the room was a chest. It’s sides had strange markings, and the top of the chest had a mysterious “V” mark. Cody tried to open it but it was locked tightly. After a long effort it plopped open, sending Cody sprawling.

Josh looked in it somewhat surprised by it’s contents. Inside it had an old dress, torn in some places, on the other half of the chest it had an old, battered blanket. Cody pushed Josh aside to look at the contents. He picked up the dress, hoping to find something under it.

A slight wind started inside the room, which turned into a gale, knocking Josh down, and leaving Cody upright. Next the temperature of the room decreased rapidly, leaving Cody and Josh shivering feriously. And then.... the torches and light went out.

They were left in total darkness. After a few minutes the lights came back on. Josh got up, Cody was no where to be seen. A faint blue, light surrounded Josh and led him toward the corner with the bookshelves. Some unseen force pushed the bookshelves apart, revealing a door. Then the door opened, and the blue light went into the corridor. Josh followed it.

After 100 feet another door came up once again a power opened it. It led into the owner’s bedroom. The light disappeared. Josh investigated the surroundings. Only a bed and a closet were visible. Instinct told him to open the closet. He walked over and carefully opened the door. Cody’s body slid out of the closet. Josh looked carefully, and hoped that Cody wasn’t dead. Two marks were visible on Cody’s entire body. Two small marks on the neck, which looked like insect bites, but their places on the neck were too much in place.

“Vampire.”

In the distance Josh heard a voice. “You have done well my child.”

Josh looked up, on the ceiling was perched a bat. The bat took off and flew out of a hole in the ceiling.

Josh then heard a voice. “He is after you.”
