water

teacher says
water is a nonliving material
she says that
it's closer to being dead
than alive
and she asks
do you understand
twenty voices
all in unison
say
yes teacher
but the oddball
the outcast
she raises her hnd
the good little students
they stare at her
with cruel eyes
and teacher ignores her
but only until she realizes
that this child is different
this child is special
so she says
yes
what is it you need
and the girl
the outcast
she talks
slow and steady
but gradually
growing in
confidence
teacher
water
is alive
it flows
and rushes
it moves
and writhes
it feels pain
worse than even the
most neglected child cannot
even begin to imagine
the pain of the water
caused by mankind
they hurt her
they break off her paths
and her life is over
water is living
teacher
yes
it is alive
the students
they look at her
their eyes burning holes into
her delicate skin
stunned
is the teacher
no,
water is nonliving
sweety
water is dead
and the girl
she leaves
and hurts herself
badly
on the railroad tracks
and the water
it takes her in
it saves her
it lets her drift
quietly
into
a neverending slumber
in its shallow pools
goodbye
