October 16, 2004 Dear Diary,
Sigh. Just when things are going great tradegy hits. Unbarable tradegy. Tradegy that you feel can not be made better. Tradegy that will last till time indefinate.
My gold fish died.
He was the best pet that I could ever ask for. He just swam around in a circle all day, smacking his rounded lips. Sometimes, I would just sit down for hours and talk to him. Sam would always listen. It always made me laugh when he would smile. It was just a slight smile. A smile that you could only notice if you were looking for it. Good old Sam. I wish he was still alive.
I hate Matt. This is all his fault. He was born a gold fish killer and he'll die a gold fish killer. Since Sam was a family pet we all took turns feeding him. It was Matt's turn. He over fed poor Sam. Poor, poor Sam. You'd think that for how smart he's supposed to be Matt would be able to read the stupid fish food container. You're only supposed to give a fish a little sprinkle of fish food, not the whole jar! I bet Matt killed Sam on purpose. He was jelouse. Yes. Jelouse of a little fish. I bet he hated Sam. He was probably counting down the days till it was his turn to feed him. Grrrrr!!!
What really made me mad was when he tried to apollogise. He said it like this: "Listen, Alicia, I'm sorry about Sam. You know how these things just sort of happen." How things just sort of happen?! Things don't "just sort of happen!" For how smart he is, Matt's pretty stupid.
I could barely go to school today. It was to upseting. I just moped around all day. When I sat down to eat lunch all of my friends noticed how sad I was.
"Hey. Are you all right, Alicia?" Robin asked.
"Sigh. Yeah, I guess."
"What did Matt do?"
"He killed Sam."
"Ohh! I always knew that boy was trouble!" Charlene said.
"Dang. That sucks," Amy said.
"Yeah. That really sucks. Poor Sam. He was my favorite fish," Lindsay said.
"How would you know? You've never met him," Charlene questioned.
"Well, he was my favorite fish to hear people talk about," Lindsay replied.
We all just sat there, on the ground by the bushes in our usuall lunch spot, not talking. Finally Lindsay got up. "Well, I have to go. I promised Princess I'd sit with her and her friends today. Sorry about your fish, Alicia. Bye."
I shuddered. Lindsay was going to hang out with Princess again. It really drives me nuts that she's getting popular and starting to abandon all of the boring, ugly people.
Rage filled my head as I saw her walk up to Princess, Jenine, Kendra, and Lucy. I think that I could hear Amy spitting on the ground. She hated them just as much as I did. Especially Jenine. A while back she tried to start a fight with Jenine, but it didn't work out. Wonder Woman AKA Lindsay stopped the fight, thus taking another step to popularity.
I didn't think I could get any madder today, but then I went home. Mom and Dad were having a huge fight. Matt and I hid behind a wall so that we could hear to see how serious it was. Thet had already been fighting by the time I got home, so I reluctuntly asked Matt what was going on, though I had vowed never to talk to him again.
"Well, you see, it started like this: Mom and Dad were drinking beer on the couch and then she said 'less filling,' but he said 'tastes great.' It all went down hill from there."
"Shut up, Matt. What really happened?"
"I don't know. I think Dad's cheating on Mom."
"What?!" I asked, almost shouting.
"Hey, I didn't say he is. I just said that I think he was."
"He'd never do that."
"How do you know?"
"Well, I, umm, I, uhh, I just do," I stammered out.
"Don't be so sure, kid," Matt said as he laft the room we were in and went to his bedroom.
I was shocked. This was to much. Sam was dead, Lindsay wasn't my friend any more, Dad was cheating on Mom. It was just to much. I had to leave. I had to get out before I burst down crying. I couldn't let anyone know how depressed I was.
I bolted out the front door. I didn't take the time to shutit, I just ran. Soon, I came to a dark alley behind a grocery store. This old, homeless lady was there.
"Well, I see I have a visitor," she said while giving a toothless smile.
By this time I was bawling my big head off. In one long, quick word I told her what was happening to me through tears. "MygoldfishSamdiedandLindsayisn'tmyfriendanymoreandmyparentsarefighting."
Somehow, the old woman was able to understand me. "It'll get bettah.
"No, it won't!"
"Ya need ta go home. I nevah did, and look at me know." I looked up. Her skin was pale, her eyes were weak, and her face was wrinkled. I nodded and got up. "Good bye, youngin'. Good luck."
When I got home my parents were still fighting. They hadn't even noticed that I had left. I walked up to my room. Matt was waiting for me.
"So, kid, you came back."
"Yeah. What's it to you?"
He smiled. I just walked into my room and slammed the door. Nothing's going right. Nothing at all.
